Readers would have remember about SJKT Lauderdale which appeared in this blog last April. Today, Dr Sree updated us (via email) on the progress (or should I say success of this project):

Dear MI Club Members and Friend ,
Ear ly this year in January , The headmaster from the Ladang Lauderdale Tamil school called me requesting for sponsorship for their school annual sports day function . Due to lack of funds they were not able to proceed with their plans to have their sports day .
I went to the school to see the condition of the school which appeared to be depressing .
The school was build in 1947 . Over the years the number of students increased but the school building remained the same . 64 children were accomondated into this small building by dividing this building into 6 classroom , a computer room and school office . In the summer the whole building felt like sitting in an oven .
As most of you know , I brought up this matter in MI Club after my visit . We had several discussions regarding this matter . Many kind members from all over Malaysia , Singapore , Kuwait , Japan and even Germany responded in kindness . Some Sponsored all the new tables and chairs , Some sponsored new cabinets , Some in the form of revision books and also paid the schools fees of several students .
We managed to raise some amount of money in order to sponsor the sports day and it was more then enough . Members of MI Club gathered in the school somewhere at the end of march during the school sports day . We handed the money to the headmaster . It was also understood that the school requires extra classrooms to ease the congestion .
It was decided that we will proceed to raise funds for building of the classroom .
I met the berkat share holder who owns the estate for permission to build extra classrooms on their land . Their responded immediatedly by clearing the land making way for the building . The PPD was also generous by providing extra funds for the building of the classroom .
With just sufficient funds and with the moral support from all the MI club members we proceeded to build the classroom which began in early MAY . We were hoping to complete the building by JUNE but due to the weather condition , the work was delayed and eventually work finished at the end of JULY and the children moved to their new classroom in AUGUST .
The current classroom was designed with higher ceilling and the roof build in such a way to provide cooling effect to the classroom . Further the floors were layed with marble tiles to add addition cooling effect .
When I walked into the room , it felt cool and fresh .
The previous building which had 6 classrooms are now spaced out to 3 classrooms . We do hope in future we will be able to build another 3 similar classrooms in order to accomodate more students . The land for another 3 more classrooms has already been allocated to the school .
Taking such a huge responsibility was a huge task for me . It continously worried me .
I would like to thank all my friends especially MI Club moderator Jega and others like Poobalan , Sathia and Shamalan who continously adviced me on the proper procedures and also all the MI CLub members who never failed to give moral support .
Thank you dear friends . Without all of you this would not have happen .
Dr.SREEDHARAN PHF , MBBS, FAGE
This is just one example of how we can get things done provided there’s proper leadership, trust, support and commitment.  I have to mentionthat Dr Sree played a major role in this project. Myself , not even 1% of the effort.
Hopefully we can replicate this model successfully, little by little.

Sayonara Murugiah

Well, I guess we all saw it coming.  When the cracks started to appear way back in 2008, one can sense that Kayveas will win.

Malaysiakini carried the news on Monday that report from ROS that refused to recognise Murugiah’s so-called Emergency General Meeting on May 24, and that the report has been handed over to Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein. This matter was discussed in the BN supreme council attended by  PPP party president M Kayveas and his two vice-presidents Maglin D’Cruz and Lee Heng .

Today, the Home Minister made the revelation of the ROS report, adding that the legal officer of the Home Ministry was also consulted in order to be sure. According to him, ROS had affirmed that (i) Kayveas is the rightful president of PPP, (ii) the election of Murugiah during an extraordinary general meeting, called by his supporters, was invalid, (iii) Murugiah’s sacking, along with six of his supporters, from the party by the party disciplinary committee was valid and in accordance with the party constitution.

Based on the information and investigation results, Murugiah does not have the ‘locus’ to act as the party’s president or use the party platform to perform any activities related to PPP.

“The party is advised to take action against him (Murugiah) if he continues to use the party’s name,” said Hishammuddin.

However, ROS also reported that Murugiah’s complaints had its merit, namely: (i)  the party had not tabled its financial records at its annual general meeting between 2003 and 2007 (violation of Section 14(1) of the Societies Act 1996), (ii) changes to the original PPP logo, (iii) holding an AGM after a June 7, 2009 deadline and (iv)  electing supreme council members a year too early.

As such, the ROS issued the PPP a showcause letter to explain itself. Should the explanation be unsatisfactory, the party could be de-registered under the Societies Act. The party has 30 days to respond.

From The Star:

Hishammuddin said he had personally spoken to Kayveas and Murugiah on Monday and Tuesday respectively to inform them of the decision and they had both accepted the decision….

“At the end of the day what I would like is for them (Kayveas and Murugiah) to find a solution that ensures that the party and its members do not suffer,” Hishammuddin said.

“This a legal solution but at the end of the day a political answer needs to be found for the personalities and leaders within the party,” he told a press conference after chairing his ministry’s post-cabinet meeting here on Wednesday.

Most importantly, he also clarified that the position of Murugiah in the cabinet is not affected by the ROS report as his Deputy Minister post was appointed by PM Najib. Anyway, its a foregone conclusion that Murugiah has to let go of his positions in the government, and PPP will submit another name to replace him, provided there’s no legal suits or PPP being de-registered.

Bye bye Murugiah. At least till you join another party or make a comeback in PPP at the next elections.

Kaalai Kathir DJ’s unexpected behaviour in Facebook

As usual I was listening to the radio in the morning. Was alternating between THR and Minnal. Around 7.45am or so, I heard the female DJ in Minnal (Buvana?) mentioning that SK Devamany urges the community to take up courses related to agriculture. She gave the website as agrolink.moa.com . I had my doubts, so I check the URL and its non-existent. So, I put a message on their Facebook presence “Kaalai Kathir” at about 8.45am or so.  Another guy named Sashi also posted after me, regarding wrong URL for something called e-press. Anyway,  a short while later, I found that both Sashi’s and my comments have disappeared.

the comment which was deleted went something like this (I couldn’t screen capture it because I never expected this, so this is from memory):

I heard you mentioning that SK Devamany was asking the public to take up courses related to agriculture, and you gave the website address as agrolink.moa.com , but the Ministry of Agriculture’s website is www.moa.gov.my because all government websites end with .gov.my . I hope you will correct this because already few times the websites mentioned by Minnal have errors. In this case, the public may think Devamany is IT-illiterate or the deejays not well prepared.

So, i posted any comment, to ask why my earlier comment was deleted:

kaalaikathir11aug

I waited till today (24 hours), but no reply from them. Instead, my comment above was also deleted!:

kaalaikathir12aug

Now,  I would have accepted if they replied saying that the comment was not related to the initial wall posting (or even any other reason), but not even that. (If you read their wall posting, it says  “…any comm..pls drop by…”, what irony!)

I find it disturbing that these very young people can act in such manner, without respect to their viewers.  When listener give comment or point out their mistakes, they delete the comments. I wonder what they will grow up into in another 5-6 years down the lane. Are these the people who are going to lead the organisation later?

Anyway, I’m going to send this posting to SK Devamany, PCB’s Murugiah, all the Minnal staff,  their bosses  at RTM and Information Ministry, and also the yahoo groups by end of  the day if no response in Facebook from the persons involved. I would love to know if the Ministry has any policy on their agencies/departments running a Facebook site, and if the department itself has any guidelines on this matter.

Note: Being frequent Minnal FM listener, I can say that they do make mistakes when mentioning URLs of websites. Perhaps they should go for basic Internet courses – can liaise with those guys that give IT talks on Wed afternoons.
