Thaipusam Day Part 0

Yeah, I know, Part 0 sounds weird. I am thinking in terms of a prologue, a background to this year’s Thaipusam celebration. This year is not like any other year before it. Due to Hindraf and the rise of Makkal Sakthi, there are calls to boycott Batu Caves. This follows the action of the temple committee to call the police when HINDRAF rally participants gathered at Batu Caves on the night before the rally (24/11). This is like adding fuel to fire, since the committee has been repeatedly accused of misusing temple funds for so long.

Ponggal Valthukel

Yesterday was Boghi, so naturally today is….Ponggal!!!

My day did not start to my liking. Found out that the India trip has to be postponed indefinitely, maybe till next year. Hmm….what to do during Chinese New Year now?

Anyway, I had planned to attend the International Ponggal Festival 2008 which was held at KL Tower (Menara KL). So, made my way to KL early in the morning. Had breakfast while texting everyone Ponggal wishes. The festival was from 10.30am till 12pm.

Not sure if Then’s planning to cook ponggal….have to keep my fingers crossed.

Oh ya….wishing everyone Ponggal valthukel (Ponggal wishes)!

Today is Boghi

Tamils all over the world will be celebrating Ponggal festival tomorrow. It is preceded by Boghi (today). On Boghi day, old and unused things are thrown into a fire to symbolise removal of old/negative thoughts/feelings/ideas etc and to signal the starting of new things. This is partly to ensure the house and surrounding area are clean as well.

Ponggal is actually the first day of the month of “Thai”. It is a festival to herald the harversting season and thanking God for providing a good bounty.

It is also know as Magara Sankranthi – meaning when the Sun enters the Makara (Capricorn) sign and moves northward for the next six months.

Blog Problem due to advertisement

Hi all,

My blog (and many others) who uses Advertlets (www.advertlets.com)’s advertisement engine have experienced a problem whereby the site is redirected to another website automatically after a few seconds. My initial worry was that my blog was hacked. Then I realised the problem is with Advertlets’s side. I removed the advertisement codes from the blog and situation is back to normal.

I googled and found out that Advertlets forgot (FORGOT!!!!) to renew their domain name which expired on 4 January 2008. Which in dummies-speak, they don’t the name advertlets.com since 4th January! So, the advertisement program went haywire. And not to mention make people like me upset!
