For 2009, I started a section on education help from March till June. However, I continue to receive inquiries on education-related topics, and may be opening a separate blog/website on that later. Hi, not sure why your results dropped in foundation. you have to analyse what went wrong. where did you do your foundation program?
i’m not sure about Bs Physio in other colleges. Masterskill offers Bs in Health Sciences or something similar. I don’t AIMST, UCSI etc offer degree ofr physiotherapy.
as for applying for jobs in singapore, you have to check with the singapore government if the degree is recognised.
i duno…lots ppl which better than me also face the same problem…but i had taken pat chem quiz in national state before..i duno wat is the problem…also….

well, you can apply bank loan or look for scholarships being advertised in newspapers and internet. at the moment, hsbc scholarship is at http://www.hsbc.com.my , but you have to keep an eye for others as well.

i guess so. if the total loan amount exceeds certain value, then the PTPTN will be stopped. even if you get scholarship, PTPTN will be stopped.

Dear sir, may I know when is the next intake to enter local universities? Is it in January? Whwn will they advertise for the the intake if it is in January 2010?
it will be in December, when the second semester starts in IPTAs. The advertisement should come out in paper, but i’m not sure when. even then, the intake is sometimes only for polytechnic students, depends on the uni.

well, i’m sorry to hear about your problem. this is the way our country works, people with less marks or qualification can also get opportunity. there’s nothing much to do other than appeal and hope that you get into the second intake. you can try appeal and send copy of letter to MIC HQ. The other option is to go to private sector or apply IPTA next year.

Sir, as u know, now im studing in Unikl-MIMET under marine electrical and electronic eng, m in 2nd semester now… recently, i get to noe tat in this MIMET for my course, they didnt have any MQA so far, and when i askd them, their responce is nt satisfied for me, it seems lik i have no future if i stil cont in here, so i took decision 2 continue my marine eng studies at ungku omar poli, bt at the same time im confused with decision which in my mind nw, im very helpless sir, sort of blurr…. i hope sir can help me, n give me a gud solution. thank u…..

looks like you are taking a risk with UNIKL. should have checked before enrolling. they may still get MQA accreditation later, but can you rely on that?
as for poli, of course its recognised, but can you get a place there?

marine eng is good choice as future demand is there. i’m not sure about the language, but i think its in english.

Hmm…very surprising you ask about UniKL-Mimet because the earlier person (Inthiran) also asking about from the same place you are, meaning most likely using the same PC/laptop.
i found on MQA website only this two programs from UNIKL-MIMET given MQA accreditation:
A6008 Diploma Teknologi Kejuruteraan (Pembinaan Dan Senggaraan Kapal)
A6007 Diploma Teknologi Kejuruteraan (Rekabentuk Kapal)
this was info updated on 11 August 2009.
if its not recognized, then you may have problem furthering studies after finishing the diploma.
if you complete diploma – most likely will be technician, asst engineer, supervisor etc. only if you complete a degree will be given engineer position.

what i meant is that you have to apply to poli using the SPM results (i think next intake application is in mid october). apply not necessary you will get because got many people apply for it. and then if get a place, not necessary you get the first choice subject that you asked.
so, i think better you continue the studies in UNIKL until place in poli is confirmed.
Of course i will cont my studies in UNIKL until i get a place in poli with the confirmation from them. if i apply poli with my community college cert and the pointer is 3.83, can i get a place in poli? i took electrical cert in CC and i wan to do marine eng in poli… any chances?
ok. good to hear. there are some students who quit first and then only want to apply at next place, so i was worried you’ll do the same. since your pointer is higher, the chance is there, but you’ll never know because this is bolehland – things happen without logic.
hi, im a student in MIMET,UNIKL,im inthiran and bobby’s jr. 1st semester to be exact. sir,i have a few questions.
1. How come Unikl,MIMET, is allowed to come up with a diploma in marine eng. course,when its not accreditted by MQA?
2.Im planning to leave this place and apply for ALAM or Poly UNGKU OMAR?? bt,as you said earlier,chances are very limited for us….what other place can you recommend that offers marine engineering for spm leaver like me??
3.y do we indians have to suffer like this just to get places in good varsities??

1. the accreditation is not compulsory. its not an “approval” process, but just a “certification”. and perhaps the program will be submitted to mQA in near future. you have to check with the college. a more pertinent question is why did you apply for a program that is not certified?
2. SPM leaver means can continue in diploma or do foundation. i guess poli and alam are the cheapest options. no much choices.
3. suffer in what sense? you entered a program which is not MQA-certified. whose’s fault is that? the “suffering” i can think of is not getting place in poli or alam. this can be due to two reasons: your results not good enough (i don’t know since you didn’t provide any) or the quota system, meaning less deserving people get the place in the poli/alam. that’s bolehland land for you.

well,as for my results,i got A1 for English 1119, A1 EST, A2 for Maths ,A2 for Moral(not relevent) ,B3 for biology,B4 for physcis and chemistry..my minimum grade is a C5 for my addmaths(total loss)..are my results not competent enough to get a place in Poly or Alam??? I have an indian friend in Poly UNgku Omar,he got only 1 A1,for modern maths…and he got a place there. another thing that is bugging my mind ,sir,is im dead seriously interested in Marine engineering. According to my seniors(indians also) they say MIMEt is nt a problem to study in,except for the fact that,they will not help us at all to find a company whereby we can conduct our practical. we have to search by ourselves. Do you have or know any contacts for me to get a place to do my practical later on,sir?

hmm…you got 4As at least, but the sciences subjects are Bs. maybe that is part of the reason, or the choice of course you put had tough competition. Obviously, given your results, you could have secured place in either poli or Alam, but this is Bolehland, anything is possible.
Finding practical place – not all IPTA/IPTS helps students to find the places. You do have to search your own. since your choice is Marine Eng, then you have to look for organisations involved in that area – port companies like PTP, logistics like MISC, DHL. giovt dept like Kajicuaca, Marine Police, Customs, tourism companies that deal with boats/ships, Transport Ministry, Marine police, insurance companies that deal with shipping claims, local uni that deal with marine conversation, etc.

your aim is good, but a bit general. everyone would want to go to uni and get a degree. but degree in what? what’s the career plan and ambition?
Advantage of doing stpm – cheapest way to continue study after SPM. provides an opportunity to enter IPTA and/or IPTS. STPM also provides you a path on which career to choose since you will be in arts/science stream. STPM is recognised worldwide, so you have many choices to choose the uni/college (depends on STPM results and finance available).
your STPM is only 4 subjects, so taking tamil separately? if you take tamil, what courses do you want to apply in IPTA? Plus, there no teacher in your school, and i doubt got any teachers in many schools. So, you have to find tuition teacher. As for books, i’m not sure. can try jayabakti in KL.
I think you have to decide your plans carefully. decide on ambition, the feasibility of subjects, and the career path.

so, i strongly suggest you go and gather more info more your college plus the many medical placement companies around.
the fees of study averages to few hundred thousand ringgits. and 5-6 years of studies.

I’m not sure about the difference between MD, MBBS and MB BCH. from my understanding, there is not different between the titles, it depends on the universities who award them. UK and commonwealth countries like malaysia, india etc award the degree as MBBS or MB Bch. MD is title given in US, Canada and few other countries. MD can also refer to postgraduate studies in UK and Commonwealth countries.

u want to do BSc SE in Uniten also or other place? I think most colleges/uni have closed the intake. have to wait till next year (jan/feb, or between april-july).
As for work demand, its a good field, but you must learn the skills and new knowledge, as IT field is ever-growing. plus, if can get some extra certificates along the way, you can get job basically anywhere in the world.

salary is not something fixed. it depends on how well you study, what kind of company you work in, which country, and also the current cost of living. in malaysia, you can earn more than 2.3k for fresh position if you join a good company, and have good results. there also graduates earning 1.6k too.
overseas of course pay more in countries like australia, us, uk, etc. but cost of living also higher.

o-levels is equivalent to SPM. its offered in private and international schools. i think best if you approach any of the private schools near your place or around KL.

O-levels is not pre-uni studies, so its not offered in colleges. its considered secondary school qualification, so you should go to a school to study it.

for Form six, minimum is pass BM. from science to arts stream, not much of a problem. if your science subject results not so good, and the arts subjects results are better, then you have good chance. also depends on the place available at the school.

im finished my spm 2007 and studied at masterskill for one year only[ dissatisfaction of loan and no demand for healthcare course] my results are, BM A2, BI C5, EST C5, MATH C5, ADD MATH C5, BIO C5, PHYSIC 7D, CHEMIS 7D, P.MORAL A2, SEJARAH A2, TAMIL A2, SASTERA TAMIL A1. according to my result what suitable courses that i can apply to? im interested in pharmacy. but i dun hv credit in chemistry. my relatives are teasing me becoz of my results. coz their children are doing in medical courses such as medicine. im loss my hope. i feel very shy. plz give any option to continue my studies. plz reply me sir.

well, i’m not sure if there’s no demand for healthcare course. demand is still there – more hospitals coming up.
your results are average, but not well in physics and chemistry. so, i guess medic, engineering and sciences are out of the question.
what is your second and third interest? what about those related to arts/social – media, broadcasting, psychology, business mgmt. or computing.
don’t worry about the relatives. be thankful that at least they are inquiring about your results. maybe they want to motivate by teasing. take it positively. that’s what i’ll do. in the end, you have to live your life yourself.
if its me, i’ll continue with the current course at masterskill. or if really not interested in that field, look for another course. won’t be wasting time comparing with/worrying about relatives and all.

if you are malaysian, you can approach nearest PPD (pej pendidikan daerah) and inquire with the Tamil school coordinators if got vacancies for temp teachers. You can also ask the schools nearby your place.

you can try apply for politeknik with SPM results (depending how the results is), deadline is 18 oct (www.politeknik.edu.my) and they have courses related to aviation (aircraft maintenance).
if you maintain in STPM, for arts students, can apply IPTA for courses in business admin, econs, law, social science, mass comm, language, education etc.
obviously, if your family can afford (or if can get PTPTN), you may try to enrol in college for diploma or foundation programmes.

well, if you plan to continue diploma in the same college u are doing the cert, they will look at the cert results. if you plan to continue diploma in another place, then depends on how much your cert is recognised by the other college.

at russia MD course is 6 years…the russsian languge is want to study taken extra 1 year or the language combined with MD.. thankyou.
for uni that teach in russian language, the language will be taught in first year of the degree as part of the program.

1. yes you can apply. but it depends if you can further study if JPA asks you to work first with them. check with JPA office.
2. there’s plenty of place you can work – training institutes, research centres, politeknik, ministries, departments etc. not necessarily lab work, can be office work too.

Sir, im form 5 this year. I am a science student. I want to be a pilot but i got eye problem. So, is there chances to study pilot?
What i must do after SPM, sir? Is there got any place to find out about aviation or to get license.
I think you need to check the level of the eye problem can try asking the flying academies for details.
for steps to do, try this website (dept of civil aviation) http://www.dca.gov.my which is under ministry of transport. they have some simple guideline and list of flying academies. you can also search this blog for keyword like “pilot” or “flying club” etc since some earlier replies also provided details.
need to keep an eye on newspapers as sometimes the airline companies will advertise as well.

it depends if your foundation is recognised by the university. i think you can’t try in public uni as most of the private foundation programme is not recognised and the places are very much limited. you can approach the private uni and college to check.

According to DCA (dept of civil aviation), :The minimum academic requirement is attain at least 5 credits at SPM level with credit in English, mathematics and a science subject. The applicant that does not meet the requirement will not be issued with CPL.
I suggest you go to their website at http://www.dca.gov.my which has guideline on becoming pilot and list of places you can study.
So it means the science subject must be a science stream’s science subject?
i believe so. but, you can check with the fyling academicies or DCA in case they have changed the rules or can accept those taking the Science subject.

the malaysian govt recognised list of medical uni is at http://www.mmc.gov.my but i’m not sure of list for recognised/registered agents/companies for medical seats. maybe can check with MOHE since these agents/companies will deal with the ministry for NOC.

what are the most demandful courses nowdays in malaysia?
I’ll say medical (doctor) because not enough places available to study and basically many students claim they want to be doctor. Other courses include dentistry, pilot, chemical engineering, other engineering fields, accounting, pharmacy, veterinary, actuarial science, law, early/childhood education, teaching, architecture, and so on.
some courses are in demand due to limited places, or due to the popularity of such careers.
remember that its your ambition, skills and interests that will be most important in deciding career path. the education towards a degree is a paper qualification. not necessarily you end up working as what you studied. there are doctors who end up as restaurant owners, engineers become sales manager, lawyer become artists, footballer become actor, and so on. There are also people who take up skills certification – becoming artists or machinists and still earn plenty of money.
also remember that what is in demand today can change in 5 or 10 years time. As long as you do a job that you are happy with, and you excel in that job, life is good enough.

i checked Kasturi College website, but no such program listed. all programs should have MQA accreditation number. Also, the college will have a list of universities that accept its foundation program. you can get that list and call the university to verify.

Hi sir, this would be a little weird but i don’t know what’s the marks required to score credit in SPM?
well, its just like in school meaning if you get above 50 marks, its credit. but there’s a general perception that its actually lower and maybe separate for the bumi/non-bumi and rural/urban students.

hello sir,im a spm holder. i choose a college and further my diploma studies at july 2008. but recently i was disable to continue my studies and came out from college. the amount that i should pay for ptptn is rm 20,000 for one year.now i decide to continue my studies and got offer letter for foundation studies. how do i pay my loan? im feel disstressed.

this is a problem. if you have an existing loan outstanding, you cannot apply for PTPTN again. i think it depends on the reasons why you quit last time. maybe can try appealing. you don’t have much option but to continue paying your loan.
