For 2009, I started a section on education help from March till June. However, I continue to receive inquiries on education-related topics, and may be opening a separate blog/website on that later. Meanwhile, I decided to start the education help earlier, starting this month. I’ve also opened a Facebook Page, so readers who use FB can check out updates there.
Due to the length of the information, I’ve split the content of this page into 6 categories. Refer the categories below.
indicates information updated in the last 2 weeks.

hi sir.i had finished my spm on 2007.tiz z my result..BM-C,BT-A2,sastera tamil-c,BI-B3,MATS-D,P.MORAL-B,SEJ-D,BIO-E….Actually m kno tat itz a bad result..but since i’ve te desire 2 do further studies, i would like 2 kno te way 2 take up teaching course{tamil}..f government izt possible?or plz let me kno the collages tat provide teaching course..nw i’ve applied for being guru sandaran.but m scared it will b late coz m alredy 21 yrs old.plz help me sir 2 do te rite decision..tq
Hi Confused,
I think the chance for getting Guru Sandaran is very low due your results, because only got 4 credits. However, i think if some student do manage to get the job due to contacts at schools or PPD, though I don’t believe its a ethical thing to do.
For teaching course also very low chance because lack 5 credits and Maths is D. I would suggest you resit SPM and improve few of the subjects like Maths, Sej, etc. If you intend to study in private, then you’ll need 5 credits. There’s two uni you can consider – UNISEL and UNITAR. You can call them up and ask them for details.
@poobalan, tq so muc sir………
Dear sir,
i was a 2009 stpm leaver & now im waiting for my result.i have bad feeling that i’ll get bad result.i got 10As and 2B in my spm.can i apply for ipta by using spm result for diploma and at the same time apply for degree by using my stpm result?i hope to get a place in local u.
Hi Lanny,
I’m afraid not for application via UPU because they use your MyKad number so it will create a conflict. But I can’t verify this at the moment.
Thanks sir..
Hi Sir… i had finished my spm in 2008.. And now i got a chance to do dip in civil engginering in Politeknik… is there any scolarship tat can i get… my resul is bad… i just got 2A math 3B english 4B malay 5C add math & moral 6C BIO,PHYS & SEJ. 7D in CHEM & EST… Please help me sir…
Hi “girl need help”,
its good that you got a “chance” to do the diploma. Is it confirmed? Scholarship is not easy for such results, and i may say even impossible because those with 10As also don’t get anything. I suggest you take up PTPTN or the JPA loan. OR, score a good first semester result and apply for scholarships after that. fees for politeknik is not expensive compared to private colleges, so if can, try to source some funds to cover at least 1st semester fees.
thanks sir…
Hi
I would like to ask matriculation is better or form 6 is better? And wat benefit us to go to matriculation? For example, if we go to matriculation we will get into local uni for sure, right? Or got any better idea.. Cause im not sure wat i want to be in the future.. So a lot of ppl said that if not sure go to form 6 first.. Is this the only choice? Im waiting for my SPM result.. So I need some advice wat i need to do.. Which occupation got related with math?
Thank You
Hi Shubha,
Matriculation is shorter compared to Form 6, and the exams are semester based, meaning you study and take exam for semester only, compared to Form 6 which exam is once and covers the whole two years.
Its not guaranteed that taking govt matric will provide place in IPTA. it still depends on your results. Also note that place for non-bumi/non-malay is very limited.
form 6 is one option if you are not sure of career. other option is A-Levels or any other pre-uni program. but form 6 is the cheapest.
maths related occupation – teacher, lecturer, researcher, accounting, finance, statistician, actuarial science, insurance/banking analyst, etc.
Dear Sir,
I’m just completed my 1st semeter in diploma in Pharmacy at Masterskill, pls advice how to apply for scholarship due to my famliy finnnacial problem.
tq
Hi Rani,
Scholarship depends on your academic results. What’s your score like? For diploma, i think better you try PTPTN loan first or even approach Masterskill counselor for advice on scholarship/loans.
You can always surf the net and read newspapers to get info on latest scholarships.
hi,
sir i want to be a tamil subject teaher in secondary school.sir tiz year waiting for mu stpm results.how many cutting points need to apply institusi / maktab perguruan or other universities tamil degree to become a teacher. sir pls guide me. thank you
hi siva,
You can refer to my guidance page while has a link to cutoff marks but remember that is a guideline only.
sir currently i’m doing stpm (upper six). i’m taking pgjian am, chem, maths T and physics..I’m just wondering without bio can i go for medicine or dentistry or pharmacy??? Cause when i simply checked the requirements for the ijazah sarjana perubatan and pergigian in usm website its written tat two B any of the followings a) Bio b) Physics c)chemistry d) Maths T would be enough…hope u’ll clear my doubt…coz sometimes i would consider medicne although my ambition is to be an engineer…
Hi Lost,
I’m not sure of USM. Can you give me the link (url) to the place where you checked? even though it may say any 2 B out of certain subjects is enough, you should remember that its the minimum requirement, and there’s many 4A students who don’t even get into medicine faculty.
For IPTA (and IPTS), you’ll need B or A- in biology for medicine and dentistry. For pharmacy, emphasis is more on chemistry. the workaround (if study in private sector), is to take a foundation in science program and use that to enter 1st year in medicine. even this path is not easy as most providers prefer students with some bio/chemistry background.
hi sir,
i sat for my stp two years ago, still undecided on what to do and which college to go but i have a liking on food studies. there is this two colleges i have looked through, one is offering food science and nutrition (ucsi) and the other food servise technolgy(msu).i studied in ucsi for two weeks and now im doing food servise tech in msu,i am the only indian in that programme.so in your best opinion, which college could offer me a better education..
Hi Priya,
i’m not in position to say which is better. but what you can do is investigate – talk to senior students, check out the facilities and usage, the lecturers capability, and the recognition of the certificates. which program has higher possibility of securing job also play a role.
being the only indian, i think doesn’t matter since both colleges are in klang valley. you won’t be deprived of indian “things”.
for me, if you like the course, then you should do well.
hi, i am a STPM 2009 student, and i am currently waiting for my results. Based on my past results, i know my results which is coming out will be almost similar to my STPM trial, in which i passed only my Pengajian Am, where i got a B, and failed my chemistry, biology and maths. IF this is what i get in my coming STPM result, is it no longer possible for me to persue furthur education? i have researched around in the internet, it seems that most would require at least two C- to be accepted in undergraduate programs… if there is only one subject passed, which is C- and failed the rest, there is only foundation available as the alternative option as i m no longer qualified for undergraduate program. is that true? in a way, i wish to clarify this matter first, is there any advice??
Hi troubles,
as you said, entry in degree program requires minimum 2 principals, so if you only pass one, then your option is foundation studies only. so, hopefully you can get 2 principals.
hi,
would like to if petronas prvides scholarship for medicine?their webste werent quite informative.
besides, i came across with the tun sambanthan scholarship.again i would like to know if they do provide s/ship for medicine.what are the requirements?
thnx 4 ur help//
Hi Rvna,
Petronas provides scholarship for medicine under overseas undergraduate studies. however, need to see if its still offered for this year.
Tun Sambanthan offers scholarship for medicine as well for students studying in local/overseas uni. the requirements not clear, but you must send your financial status and exam results to them.
helo sir,im from pahang.currently im in masterskill.im having some problem and im not getting my PTPTN for each sem.my mom is a sick woman and she cant work.my parents are divorced.im really strugling here.so what im expecting is i need atleast RM200 per month.so that i can survive here without my mothers help.please sir.thank you.
Hi Rupini,
1. what is the reason for not getting PTPTN for each sem now?
2. you can help your mother to register with the welfare dept near your hometown. visit http://www.jkm.gov.my to find the welfare dept in your daerah.
3. how is your results? is it possible to apply scholarship, for example?
4. what course and how long more to graduate?
vanakam sir. im a stpm leaver.i would like to further my studies in local u.im interested in tesl.so.wat ar the requirements sir?pls help me sir.
Vanakkam nila14,
have you applied via UPU? results coming out next week. Are you stpm 2009 student?
TESL offered by some private uni as well, so if you don’t get IPTA, still can try for IPTS.
sir wer i can find al the cutting points..
try :
http://stpmindians.blogspot.com/
try also searching at recom.org
hello, i’m a stpm2009 leaver and i was wondering if you would know where i can check for the complete list of courses offered at the local public universities (IPTA) in malaysia?
Hi stpm09leaver,
you can check it at UPU website or the individual uni websites.
hi sir. im 2009 stpm student..juz want to know how to count the pointer…sir, i would like to know if theres any scholarship for indian muslim student using my spm result if i want to do medicine in overseas…..sir. this question is realy important for me…which university is better and cheapest? kursk state medical university or any indonesia university?
Hi Curious,
for pointer calc: refer:
http://upu.mohe.gov.my/portal/arkib/KENYATAAN%20AKHBAR%20KAEDAH%20PENGIRAAN%20MERIT.pdf
http://upu.mohe.gov.my/portal/epanduan/new_kaedah_kiraan_merit.pdf
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sijil_Tinggi_Persekolahan_Malaysia
i don’t think there’s any specific scholarships for indian muslims. maybe can check with KIMMA or the indian muslim restaurant owners association (presima i think).
medicine in overseas – cheap is one thing, quality is another. you must be careful if base cost as main criteria in choosing university. i eally can’t say which is better between kursk or “any” indonesian uni as i don’t hv any contact there. you can search the forums at recom.org which may provide some hints. there are few student placement companies around. you can check with MOHE for the list of registered agents. I’m compiling a list but maybe will be posting on sunday or next week only.
hye sir
im stpm leaver 2008
act i retake back my PA paper because i gt D for my PA…and because of this i dint gt IPTA…
ten i coll MPM for information to apply for University and they said that they already closed the application on february and they said that i will never gt IPTA because i didnt apply early..
so what must i do sir
Hi Meena,
MPM is right. STPM 2008 leaver application date closes on 4 Feb 2010.
http://upu.mohe.gov.my/portal/epanduan/TARIKH%20PERMOHONAN%20KEMASUKAN%20KE%20IPTA%201011.pdf
so, i guess option is to wait for next year or next intake (oct – but i’m not sure if 2008 students can apply in 2nd semester).
or consider non-IPTA option – private colleges.
you can use your spm results for diploma course. deadline is 30 march 2010.
hi sir,i’m a SPM leaver year 2008..I would like 2 take up TESL course and would like 2 know if i am eligible to take up that course…These are my results…A1-BM,A1 ENGLISH,A1-PERDAGANGAN,A1-MORAL,A1 SCIENCE,B4 ECONOMI ASAS,B4-AKAUNS,B4-MATHS,and 9G ADD MATHS…Will the add maths stop me from getting into this course?
Hi Shalini,
if you planning to take up TESL in private colleges the Add Maths won’t affect your application.
which universities offer this course? and do i have to pay on my own in public universities? do i have a chance to continue my studies abroad?
do u think i can apply for public university with my results?
Shalini,
as i mentioned earlier, you can apply but for diploma courses only because SPM leavers cannot enter degree course directly for IPTA.
hi Shalini,
if you want to study in local public uni, you need to take STPM. SPM leavers cannot enter public uni for degree. and yes, if after STPM, u manage to enter IPTA, you have to pay the fees (which are very low!). you can also apply for scholarships after enter uni.
if in private college/uni, you have to take either a-levels or foundation programs before doing the TESL degree.
i think IPTA which offer TESL is UPSI, UM, UKM etc. IPTS include UNISEL, UNITAR, MSU etc.
refer: http://www.teslmalaysia.com/studying-tesl-in-malaysia
you can study in overseas, provided you manage to secure a place to do foundation/a-levels/diploma in that uni.
thnks so much for the previous reply… actually,… sir, my ambition is to be a medical specialist, gynaecologist… i want to know evrything about the course, fees, and everything regarding being a medical specialist so that i can plan my finance realy well….my financial problem is realy terrible…so, the best way is to talk to consultant….can u plz recommend anyone for me to email, to meet or to ring…thanks…
Hi Curious,
To be a medical specialist like a gynecologist, you undergo the general medical degree and later do the specialisation. medical doctor degree is 5 to 6 years, while specialisation may take another 2 years or so. most students work for a while after their degree (partly because you are required to work by the govt) and for the experience before furthering studies.
as for who to talk to, i strongly suggest you read forums in recom.org, medicine.com.my, or even post in Afterschool.my page in Facebook. I’ll be putting up a list of student placement agencies in the list by end of the week, so you can also call them up for ideas. The guidance/counselling page also will have contact info for advisors. call them up too.
Hi Sir,
I have 2 As and 2A-s in my STPM and I would like to pursue medical courses in public university in Malaysia. Can you advise me on the good universities that would most likely accept me? Thank you.
Hi Smiley,
Congrats on your excellent results. Pls refer to the cut-off points in the Guidance page link. Also read the forums in recom.org and if can, visit the MCA education roadshow (refer Guidance page of this blog).
medic uni: UM, UKM, USM, UPM, UNIMAS, UMS, UITM, UIAM. The last two is for bumi only, if i’m not mistaken.
as to which can accept you, hard for me to say.
@Smiley, I have helped students with similar reults to get medical. You can try UMS, UDM
@Smiley, Last year one Indian got in UDM – Matrix 3.8+
hi sir..i am sukanya subramaniam,,i’m waiting for spm results..results is coming out on 16 march..i have no plan what to do next..i need your help…i plan to do pharmacy…
i’m interested in that…if can,i dun want to take form 6…what should i du??????where is the best place to take pharmacy course after spm???how long will it took to finish my course??
and how much is the cost??please help me….
Hi Sukanya,
if you don’t plan to do STPM, then options are a-levels/cpu/sam or foundation program. i think among cheapest places to do pharmacy is in indonesia, while in malaysia is AIMST. anyway, i’ll post a list of placement agents by end of the week. you can call them up for details on costing. a degree program takes 3 years (and + 1 year for foundation).
thanks sir…what are the qualifications to study pharmacy sir??????
Hi again Sukanya,
as i mentioned earlier, you need to take up either foundation or pre-u like a-levels before doing degree in pharmacy. to do foundation or a-levels, minimum requirements are either 5 credits (usually with at least B in science subjects). some colleges like Masterskill allow you to take diploma in pharmacy, and later continue with degree.
so, the issue is getting GOOD results in foundation or a-levels in order to continue to degree program.
hi sir..i jus got my stpm result & my cgpa is 2.42 (PA–B+, Sej–C-, PP–C+ & Eko–C+)
i was planning 2 apply for law or linguistics bt since my result is not gud, at all, i think law is not possible 4 me..
so i was wondering if im qualified 2 apply 4 linguistics in UM?Or is there any other choices??Thx
Hi Meiteng,
refer here for the requirements:
https://online.mohe.gov.my/upu/emas/index_syarat.php?pagefunc=syaratByBidang&carian1=002&carian2=AS&carian3=A
since your best results are PA and eko/pp, better focus on related courses.
hye sir.i’m currently waiting 4 my spm2009 results.n i think my results will be not so good as my trial.i’m seriously in major problem cz i don’t know what i’m good in,with no ambition.i find that i’m not excellent in science.i was a technic student before, majoring in civil engineering…n my results for the engineering course n technical drawing were not so bad during trials..i don’t know what should i do n what should i choose when apllying for the universities..help me pls..
Hi blank,
well since you mentioned your engineering and tech drawing courses results are not so bad, perhaps that’s one possible solution for you. you can start checking courses related to engineering, draughtsmanship, QS, architecture, interior design, landscape, environment, etc. why not go through the list of courses offered via UPU website first, maybe something will interest you. but bear in mind that if you are non-bumi, you can only apply for diploma programs in IPTA.
however if you want to pursue in private college/uni (which has more lenient requirements), you can consider foundation or diploma programs.
hello sir….
i have just got my stpm result…they are as following:
pengajian am- A-
biology- C+
chemistry- B+
maths- C+
i need your guidance in what kind off courses i should be able to apply……..i am interested into getting into health sciences or anything similar……..
tq……
Hi Ben15,
reminds me of Ben 10 ! 🙂
since you got best results in chemistry, then try for those courses requiring chemistry. there’s plenty of courses in upm, ukm, usm, um, unimas, and ums too.
check out the list of subjects at UPU and decide after that.
i’ll suggest you refer to the Guidance page in this blog, and talk to counselors/attend roadshows.
Sir my 2007 spm results I got 10As in all subjects I took.Recently my stpm 2009 results I got PA-B Bio-B Che-C MAth -C.I intend to take medicine.Pls advice me sir
Hi Siladory,
Your SPM results were good, why didn’t continue directly to foundation and medic?
anyway, i think with the SPTM results, can’t get place in IPTA. you have to consider ipts. i’ll suggest you try the local IPTS or talk to student placement agents on studying in foreign uni in indonesia, russia, etc.
hey sir. i jz got my STPM result but i unable to get a better result. my result is PA(D+) Math(D) Phy(C) Chem(C-)
for local uni is totally hopeless already… can i apply for private uni? sir hv any better suggestion? cuz i wanted to further study but i cant see my future….
Hi Yuin,
Your results have one principal pass (physics). you can try IPTS. some courses do accept students with at least one principal pass, BUT may not be into direct degree program. you may have to study foundation or diploma first. i suggest you approach some of the colleges/uni you are interested to see if can enter degree program directly.
don’t worry about there’s no future. there’s always a path to study. it may be a bit longer. if you need to do foundation or diploma, its just extra one year or so.
hi sir,
i just got my stpm result yesterday.i got 1a(pa) 1b(bm) and 2c’s(sej and pp).and im interested in doing law in public uni.do you think its possible?if yes then where should i apply?coz as far as i know only um ukm and uum offers law?and wat other options i have besides business?
thanks.
Hi Sue,
Law is quite competitve course, and i’m not sure if the 2 Cs will be strong enough to push your application. refer to http://stpmindians.blogspot.com/ for some idea of cut-off points. UM and UUM is quite popular for Law, so maybe you should try for UKM.
Besides business, there’s other options like sosiologi, language, mass comm, IT, etc.
you should refer to upu website for full list of courses available, and then short list from there.
Hey sir. I’ve got a B+ for my Pa, a B for My Pengajian Perniagaan, a D for my Ekonomi, and F for my Sejarah, can I only retake my Ekonomi and Sejarah papers and combine it with the other two subjects? Will my other results be reprinted on the new cert if I retake?
Hi Potter (Harry?),
i need to check on this. best if you check with your school.
hi sir, i just got my stpm result (PA–C+, Maths–B-,Chem–C-,Phy–D) i wonder i can go to local U or not. i wan to get software programming course.
Hi Zack,
I calculated your marks and the cgpa is 1.91, which is below the requirement of minimum cpga 2.00. you can give a try, but the chance is very, very slim.
Hello, sir. I’ve taken my stpm result, and the CGPA is 3.25. I applied for medical imaging in UM where the requirements sated there as follows : at least gred B in bio/phys and chem/maths. I got B+ for both bio and maths but C+ for chem. I know i meet the requirements stated but is the chance of getting this course slim? Is the success rate of non-bumiputra intake by UM very low? What if i apply for courses which i cannot memenuhi the syarat khas? is it worth giving a try? or i should put some other courses which only require 2.00 CGPA? And lastly, is my CGPA good enough to be accepted by the courses i chosen (those that requirements are met). Sorry to bother u n suddenly ask so much question… TQ
Hi May,
Going by the cut-ff marks guideline (http://stpmindians.blogspot.com or http://www.quansheng.org/ ) your marks may not be sufficient. if you don’t fulfill the syarat khas, then obviously the chance is zero, or at best, slim. i’ll say if there are other courses which have more lenient intake, then go for it, instead of trying for course that you don’t fufill the criteria. look for those with cut-off between 3 and 3.5, which may be appropriate.
i cant’ comment on non-bumi intake into um, as its skewed due to intake into asasi and matric students.
sir, i’m a stpm leaver with cgpa of 2.49.. i’m from a science stream… i got B in math T, C+ in physic, chemistry and also in pengajian am…
i wanted to do chemical enginnering… but after looking at the minimum requirement for ipta.. i was disappointed because they requires at least cgpa of 3.0 and above…
so, i wonder if i still have chances to go for local universities or not? if i do, wat are the procedures i hav to do… really confused…
Hi sam,
well, chemical eng is a popular course, so of course the cut-off marks is higher. so, you can’t expect results below 3.0 (actually you may need 4.00) to get a place there (but you never know, it may happen).
your results is above the min 2.00 requirement, so yes, you still have a chance. look for the syarat khas which you can fulfill and apply for those courses. the procedure is the same. you apply via UPU. check the list of courses from all the uni (or whichever uni you prefer). list out all the courses which you qualify. cross-check with the recommended cut-off marks via quansheng or stpmindian blog (both links is in the Guidance page of this blog). finalise your course list and apply online via UPU site.
thank you sir, and one more thing….
how would i arrange the order of the courses …. i planned to apply chemical enginnering in ump… shud i placed the course at the first place or at the last place
sam,
put it as first/second choice probably will be better.
thank you sir…. 🙂
@sam, You can apply to Engineeing Course in UMP…..maybe after one yera ou can ask for transfer
thanks sir for the advice earlier..
i would like to know sosiologi is about what?
and how wide is my job opportunity if i take language?
what are my chances of getting in any u for law?
im so blank right now.i dont know what i should apply for.
and if i put ukm as my first choice and i didnt get in.will they offer other courses.like my 3rd 4th or 5th choice?
thanks again.sorry for irritating u wit lots of ques.
hi sue,
sociology is general term. read it here:
http://www.answers.com/topic/sociology
http://www.ask.com/questions-about/Definition-of-Sociology
basically it involves study on the human system, civilization, communities, relationships etc.
language related career is mainly in media, education, writing etc. you can refer to the uni prospectus which also give idea on the careers available. i would say the prospect is there, but not as wide as one would expect.
Law, hmm…quite difficult as you can see cut-off mark is quite high.
yes, if you don’t get the first choice, but may be got place in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th option, they’ll offer you a place there.
no prob, i shall try answer as much as i can. all the best.
halo… i m a physics student..
my stpm result (PA C, Math B, Phy A, Chem A)
i m still not sure wat course is suitable for me… i like chemistry more than physics… but hope to choose a course related to chemistry and physics…
i m so blur now….
Hi XiNer,
Both your science subjects are A, so you can apply for both. if you like chemistry more, then just look up the courses which are chemical-inclined, like pharmacy, science (chemistry). you have to go through the list of courses, see which fits your requirements. chemical engineering is a bit hard to get since its very popular course.
@poobalan, Try Chemical Engineeing UMP
I AM STPM LEAVER…M GOT 2 PRINCIPAL IN BIOLOGY N CHEMISTRY….M GT APPLY 4 BSC IN BIOTECHNOLOGY IN UNISEL AND UTAR…TEY ASKING MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THAT COURSE IS PRINCIPAL IN BIO N CHEM…SO,CAN I GET SEAT 2 DO DEGREE AH THERE MADAM???PLS HELP ME…
hi mages,
i already replied to this question in the Guidance page.
And i’m not madam 🙂
Dear sir,
I just took my STPM results… Bt i scored badly. So, I have 2 do diploma studies using my SPM results… I got 4A’s( BM,ENG,MATHS,SCIENCE),3B’s n the rest credits in my SPM. My parents suggested me 2 take up teaching courses.. So, i tout of taking up Dip in Education(TESL) course in MSU. Is It a good choice? Or are there any better choices out ter 4 me??? Plz help….
Thank you sir.
Hi Liya,
some of the education courses may require you to attend interview to gauge your capability. so, pls check on that too. IF you like (and capable) in english, you can consider TESL. after diploma, you would most likely want to continue degree.
since you have minimum 5 credits, why not do a foundation program at unitar or unisel and continue with degree? you can still get a job in govt school if you do degree in education in unitar or unisel (recognised by MOE).
hi, nice to meet sir. I’m juz finish SPM in year 2008 and now waiting for the exam result. I writing this is asking you to give a comment or opinion about which universities or colleges is most preferred? now, I’m planning to pursue my study in UTAR or Segi college and ACCA in sunway university. Can you give some advise to me?
Hi anderson,
nice to hear from you.
i won’t want to focus on which uni/college is preferred because that quite subjective (depends on the students’ thinking/preference and also the courses offered). do remember that the course need to MQA registered, the uni/college must offer suitable facilities, the lecturers must be good, environment nice to study. Both UTAR and SEGI is good option, as one is backed by political party, while the other has 40 years history (as systematic college back in 1970s). Sunway ACCA also has good track record.
my advice – visit the places, “feel” the environment. which makes you comfortable? which can give you best cost and maybe scholarship/discounts on fees? some students may consider cost of living as well, so sunway may be a bit expensive compared to area around UTAR. SEGI KD is a bit off-track and nothing much around the walking distance. SEGI KL is strategic location.
if you thinking ACCA – then either Sunway or SEGI.
Dear Sir
I have just received my STPM results with a CGPA 3.34; The results are: Biology A-, Mathematics A-, Chemistry B+ and PA B-. I did achieve 10A1s for SPM. Was wondering if there is any chance in applying for Pharmacy at the local universities?
Thank you.
I
Hi Dhilashini,
congrats on your results. STPM is not easy and you did a commendable job.
Pharmacy is quite sought after course, and I’m afraid CGPA below 3.5 won’t be able to make it. You can give a try, but put other uni as first option, not UM.
@poobalan, You can try for Vet in UPM or UMK…. You might have a good chance
hye sir
im stpm leaver
i gt 1A and 3B in stpm
n my pointer is 3.2
i wan do tessol in college
so can u suggest me wer can i stdy for tessol
Hi sreena,
As I mentioned to another reader earlier, some of the education courses may require you to attend interview to gauge your capability. so, pls check on that too. IF you like (and capable) in english, you can consider TESL (i think that’s what you meant by tessol? )
i think some colleges that offer tesl include MSU, unisel, unitar, utar.
@poobalan, TESOL – Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
Test -Teaching Engiliish Second Language
thanks Satya. Haven’t heard of TESOL before this.
Hi sir, i did my stpm in science stream i have not get a good result.i was fail in 2 subject. My parent want i do teaching.I get B+ in tamil.can i apply 4 ipta.pls help.
Hi Saras,
minimum requirement for IPTA is CPGA 2.00. so, did you manage to get that? Whether you can apply for Tamil studies in UM depends on the results. I think B+ maybe can give a try.
@poobalan, You still need to fullfil syarat Am of uni which is to get CGPA 2.00…. i know few Tamil Language students in UM..mostly with CGPA 3.00
hi sir..i just get my stpm result i’ve got (pa B-, maths F , chem C, bio B-)i’m interested in environmental or biology courses..am i eligible to apply public uni in ?? or should i apply IPTS?? or should i retake my maths??pls give me some advise, sir..
Hi MJ,
your CGPA is 1.83 right? means below IPTA requirement of 2.00. The chance of applying for IPTA is considered none or very slim to get.
So, next option is in IPTS, but many IPTS also follow ministry rules of 2.00 CGPA or at least two principal pass. You can give a try for those courses you mentioned. Try masterskill, kliuc, mahsa, segi, etc.
as for retaking maths, depends on if you can get a place in IPTS first. If can get, why want to resit maths?
thanks for advise..mr poobalan…by the way..i’m still blur about the minimum requirement universities need(both IPTA and IPTS) …because some webpage said the minimum requirement is at least 3 credits to apply universities, while some said we need to get CGPA above 2.00…which one is true??
Hi MJ,
refer to the official website – upu.mohe.gov.my which states the syarat am and khas for IPTA.
for IPTS, you need to refer to each individual IPTS website for clarification. from my observation is minimum 2.00 cgpa. the “credits’ is for SPM leavers.
thanks sir
For those who wants to apply IPTA. You must have 3C (2.00) AND Overall CGPA of 2.00. Thats the minimum requirement to apply for local university.
You also have to check the syarat Khas from the University. Engineering program might need you to take physics, It course might need you to have credit in SPM maths.
You can check it here
https://online.mohe.gov.my/upu/emas/index_epanduan.php
Thanks Satya!
@Satyaseelan, One of your C must be PA……..
Basicly overall of 2.00 with C(2.00) in PA and C(2.00) in other 2 subjects
thanks for the advise. if i wanted to apply PTPTN with my spm result not my stpm result will i get it? my result is BM(D)
BI, BC, ADD MATH, CHEM, EST, MORAL is B den BIO and PHY is C last MATH is A.
but i already resit for de july paper for BM and i get C.
izzit prossible i get the PTPTN and apply for UTAR foundation and then continue degree??
or izzit possible that i use my stpm result apply degree in UTAR?
yuin,
yes you can get PTPTN because your subjects are all ok (even BM manage to get C). REMEMBER, you must get a place to study first, then only apply for PTPTN, not the other way around. PTPTN won’t pay for foundation/A-levels/pre-u programs. They will only provide loan for student who enrol in diploma/degree. So, for your foundation, you have to pay on your own. after completing foundation, you can enrol into degree, and then apply for PTPTN.
I think with your stpm results not possible to enrol degree program. but you can confirm with UTAR counselors. call them tomorrow.
hi,sir!!!!!!
i juz got CGPA 2.5 for my STPM,SO WAT CAN I DO wif tat result?????????CAN I ENTER LOCAL UNI????????//
Hi Kivas,
yes you can apply provided have minimum C in 3 subjects.
Hello Sir,
I’ve just completed my STPM and i’ve got my results. I had 2a’s for Bio and PA and 1 A- for PA and a B+ for maths. I’m really interested to do dentistry. my CGPA is 3.75.can i get some advice as to which uni i should apply.or do you have any suggestions for me.thank you =)
Hi Divya,
There’s two options – UM and UKM. both have quite high cut-off guideline: 4.00 and 3.92. i’m not sure if you can secure a place. may have to consider other options as well. if you are interested in medical line, then check courses offered by medical/health science faculties like biomedicine, dietitian, optometri, radiography, medical imaging, vet etc.
@Divya Rubini, Just try for UDM Medic….. Last year cut off was 3.88 i think
@Divya Rubini, Usm Dentistry
@poobalan,
Thank you sir. Yes, i do like english. I’d like 2 know if taking foundation is better than taking diploma(according to your reply)? I’ve just flopped my STPM, so I’m scared to take up foundation. Can I ask you something else? If I do my diploma in MSU, are there chances 4 me to do degree in any public university with that results later on? Hope you can reply sir. It’s very helpful to me.
Hi Liya,
Taking foundation is better in terms of time because its usually one year program. cost is another matter because in SOME cases, foundation+degree is more expensive than diploma+degree. If you are worried about studying in foundation style, then just go for diploma which is semester based study. there’s no right or wrong here.
i’m not sure about MSU but very, very few IPTS (and i can’t recall any at the moment) programs are allowed to continue into degree in IPTA.
hi sir,i am doing foundation programme sem 2 in segi college. i want to apply scholarship for my degree programme.i got 3.88pointer in sem1.sem2 i just finished the exam and by in september i enrolling to degree.which scholarship i can appy sir?got chances for me to get the scholarship?
Hi suba,
how about Star Education Fund? I think SEGI got some programs listed under Star Education Fund. Other than that, you have to check with your college notice boards and also check the papers daily. 3.88 is quite good results and you stand a good chance. i think even SEGI may offer some discounts for students to continue degree.
hello sir,
i’ve just completed my stpm n got my results.i had 2B+ for PA and BAHASA TAMIL and 2C+ for PENGAJIAN PERNIAGAAN and BM n C in sejarah.my CGPA is 2.83.can i get some advises as to which uni n course i should apply.or u hv any suggestions for me??? thanks for ur attention..!
Hi Sangaran,
refer to the stpmindians.blogspot.com for options. look for those CGPA in the region of your marks.
may i noe de Entry Requirements of utar & segi college?will they accept C-?
SWW,
i think it depends on the course. you have to check their website or talk to their counselor. whatever they say, ask for proof – written document or student prospectus, for example.
my stpm CGPA is 2.91 . i wan 2 apply pendidikan couse. which uni n couse should i apply?tq
Hi yy,
you didnt mention your stream – arts or science. you can try UKM, sports science, UMS (TESL), UPSI (few courses), UKM (few courses), USM (pendidikan khas, TESOL), among others. pls check on courses available via UPU and refer to guide on cut-off marks at stpmindians.blogspot.com
Dear sir,
I got 3A(A in PA,Ekonomi & A- in P.Perniagaan) and B in my BM paper.My cgpa is 3.67.
with this result,do you think that it is safe for me to apply for accounting courses in IPTA?
Hi juanc,
congrats on your results. i think can try for UPM, UMS, UUM, or UMT/UDM. UM is a bit hard to get since the cut-off recommended is higher, 4.00.
