Updated: 20 August 2010

For 2009, I started a section on education help from March till June. However, I continue to receive inquiries on education-related topics, and may be opening a separate blog/website on that later. Meanwhile, I decided to start the education help earlier, starting this month. I’ve also opened a Facebook Page, so readers who use FB can check out updates there.

Due to the length of the information, I’ve split the content of this page into 6 categories. Refer the categories below.

indicates information updated in the last 2 weeks.

I’ve split the content of this page into 6 categories:

hello sir….im a science stream student wf cgpa 2.5..i got 1a- 1c+ 2c….i heard a rumours saying tat its seems for d first time gvemnt had fix cgpa 3 as d main requirement in getting a plce to study in u…is tat true sir….???n can u suggest me which u shud i apply in…??

    • poobalan says:

      hi moshy,

the UPU website clearly says minimum requirement to enter IPTA is CGPA 2.00 and minimum 3Cs. so, forget the rumours. HOWEVER, the competition is high, so you can’t expect student with 2.00 to get place in law, medicine, accounting, engineering, dentistry etc degree.

i suggest you refer to stpmindians.blogspot.com for cut-off marks that fit your results and decide from there. you should look at uni like UUM, UMP, UniMAP, unimas, UMS, UMT, UDM etc. it will be hard to enter UM, USM, while UKM and UPM depends on the course.

  2. Mugilan says:

    dear sir,
i got 3A(A in PA,Ekonomi & BM) B+ in Tamil and B in P.Perniagaan..My cgpa is 3.82…i dont know wat course to aply…and wat course have better future…can u help me sir…give some choices…thank you….

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Mugilan,

Congrats on your results. You can apply for economy or BM related course. would say that you refer to UPU website and see which courses interest you. then check the cut-off guide at stpmindians.blogspot.com

There’s plenty of good courses related to economy, finance, mass comm, education, language, counselling, management, HR, property mgmt, etc.

  3. loges says:

Hello sir. I’m a STPM leaver.I got 2B+ in pengajian am and sejarah and 2B- in tamil and pengajian perniagaan and my total CGPA is 3.00. I want 2 do teaching course bt i don’t know which
university and courses that i can choose. I’m very interest 2 be a tamil teacher bti only got B- in tamil. Is there f any chances 4 me 2 be a tamil teacher?

  4. QIN says:

i got 3.09. from bio class….SPM english A1, muet band 4, if i want to apply for upm and utm tesl, can or not? is it possible? or very hard??

    • poobalan says:

      Qin,

Check the Syarat Khas for TESL in UPM, UTM, UKM, UMS, UPSI.

      UPSI,UMS: min band 4 muet
UKM: min band 4 muet, at least B in two science/math STPM subjects
UTM: at least two C in STPM subjects, min band 4 muet
      UPM: for sastera stream

all uni says need to pass Medsi test and interview.

can try for upsi, ums, utm and UKM( if have 2 Bs)

  5. selva says:

    hi my name is selva,i got the result below for my stpm 2009;
    pengajian am=A-
    mathematics T=B-
    biology=B+
    chemistry=B+
with cgpa of 3.25,i’m wishing to fulfil my dream of becoming a veterinarian,i wanna apply the course in universiti malaysia kelantan as my first choice and uni putra malaysia as my second choice,do u think i will get…..reply me as soon as possible

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Selva,

you can try for UMK, but for UPM, the suggested cut-off is around 3.33 (even that is considered risky to apply).

  6. sherry says:

    dear sir,
my result is (pa)a-,(bio)b+,(che)b n (maths)b-,muet band 4.i m a bio student n i hope to enter either mikrobiology o dietetik field o anthing related to biology. In ur opinion, do u think i able to get either of this courses?n which university should i take as priority?i know that usually what they stated on the syarat khas is juz a minimum requirement actually the real requirement is much more higher. So hw should i choose for the courses?

    t.q

    • poobalan says:

      Hi sherry,

your cgpa is 3.175. if you refer to cut-off guide in stpmindians.blogspot.com, you can get some idea on how suitable is your results for the courses you mentioned. i think you should try for the less-popular uni instead of UM or USM.

  7. pipi says:

    hi~i’m just finished stpm on 2009,but my result vry bad~~PA C,BM D+,EK C-,PP C~
i stil got cahnce to apply universiti??what course should i choose???or can apply politeknik???

    • poobalan says:

      hi pipi,

unfortunately, you did not meet the requirements for IPTA intake, which is minimum 3 Cs including PA (your ekonomi is C- right?).

your options would be IPTS college/uni, either do foundation (min 5 credits SPM) or diploma (min 3 credits SPM).

politeknik – need to apply using SPM results.

      • pipi says:

        oh~~thanks~~ya~~my ek get c-
so sad~~my perents din suggest i apply ipts…ipts more expensive, rite??

now i’m 23 years old, still can apply politeknik??when is the exp date for apply politeknik?

        thank you so much~~

        • poobalan says:

          Pipi,

IPTS is of course more expensive, but you have option of taking PTPTN loan. And if you study very well in college/uni, can apply for scholarships at that time. Some colleges are still affordable. I suggest you attend the education fair/open day/roadshows and get to know the fees. You should try TAR college, UTAR, SEGI, Unisel, Unitar, KLIUC etc which may be offering lower fees compared to the popular colleges like INTI, Sunway, Taylors, LKW etc.

I think still can apply poli, but their website down at the moment, so can’t confirm. anyway, application should open next week after SPM results are out. So you can check it then.

  8. Navin says:

Sir, i m 2009’s stpm candidate with 3.67 cgpa. I scored 9A n 1B in my spm. MUET : Band 5. With cocu marks 81.25%. I m applying to get into UMS Medic, as first choice. And i opted no to take any courses offered apart from my initially selected courses. (UPU application). Actually i applied all medic. I know i didnt make it into the average cut off point for medic. Will i get in? And sir, can you give me the links to the matriculation indian students 2009 results statictics? IPTS medic is not an option. TQ.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Navin,

well, you clearly know its a big risk you are taking, and chances are slim, to put it mildly. so, in my opinion, no, you won’t get a place. but, its worth a try as you never know how things will turn out.

i don’t have the info on matric students results, let alone indian students. need to ask around.

      • Navin says:

        @poobalan,

Hello sir, thanks for the reply, point well taken. tq. Actually, I’m having stpm for the 2nd time ad, unfortunately enough. But things turned out pretty badly, again. My science subjects Paper 4 lowerd my science subject grades. Clearly, paper 4 was a major heartbreaker for stpm private candidates as there are no notes and even samples of it are “prehistoric” as MPM has sold the rights to Longman Publications, and they are not going to put it for sale due to lack of request (due to small number of private candidates every year). On the other hand, school candidates can obtain a “plastic” A in their equivalent Paper 3, just by copying thie senior’s report and being nice to their teachers.
        Eg, my STPM Chemistry grades:
        Paper 1 : A
        Paper 2 : A-
        Paper 4 : C+
        Overall chemistry grade : A-.
Clearly, Paper 4 busted my chances of getting an A for chem.
Again, i m a cruel victim of the system, aptly. IPTA, no hope. IPTS no way. Repeating again is the only way. So, i ll be repeating again for the 3rd time. So sir, I’m taking this oppurtunity to humbly request you to gather data(notes and example or any contact info )for Paper 4 STPM Biology and Chemistry. I have sincerly made all the efforts to get Paper 4 till last year but to no avail. The Paper is “lost” in Malaysia. Even though it carries 10% marks, but it is crucial. Unless, I get my Paper 4, I ll get screwd up again and have to consider a career as professional exam taker for the next , what 30 years?! Help me, sir.

        • poobalan says:

          Hi navin,

well, we can’t have everything as we like. paper 4 is indeed a problem for private students.

i’ll ask around on the paper 4 things, but no guarantees though.

may offer an alternative option – some degree/diploma programs like biomedic, applied health, biotech etc may allow students to pursue medicine degree later (enter 2 or 3 year directly i think). so this is also another possibility.

usm medic@india is about USD100,000 for fees only, which is quite reasonable. can also consider that.

        • Navin says:

          @Navin,
Hello sir, thanks again and again for your help and consideration. About Paper 4, pls inform me (by email), if there is any update on that, and i ll surely follow your blog and FB page. And sir, one more favour, can you explain further on entering medic year 2 n 3 after enrolling into related med science courses, as stated above, any webpages to read, contact info on that? Just any further details too. Surely, I ll consider that option too. Thank you, sir.

          • poobalan says:

            Hi Navin,

you can try talking to agents listed in the “Related Websites” page – http://poobalan.com/blog/education-help/websites/

I believe those colleges offering medical/allied science programs like MSU, Masterskill, Cybermed, MAHSA, Surya, can also provide some info. you’ll need to talk their counsellors. What i heard is from unofficial sources only.

Even USM website also mentions it for their medic@india program. Check it at the Applications page.

        • Navin says:

          @Navin,
Hello sir, it’s me again, one more favour sir, can you please give your opinion on my IPTA application?
Should I put UDM medic as my second or third choice? Currently, iy’s my third choice with UNIMAS medic being the second. Its the average cut off point for UDM medic is lower than UNIMAS’? This is UDM medic’s just 2nd intake (2010/2011) and it’s hard to get any compiled statictics on its points.

          • poobalan says:

            Navin,

I’m not sure about UDM’s cut off marks, but being newer, it should have a lower cut-off than unimas. and remember, its in east coast. so perhaps its better to put it as 2nd option?

  9. cping says:

hi and good day to u sir,

i just got my stpm results, its 3.67..2As for pa and bio,A- for chem, and B for maths..the thing is im not sure whether it would secure or let alone stand a chance in getting into the course that i want, which is pharmacy as i heard students who get into UM,USM,UKM are all four flatters! (well, most of them) ..ipts would be another option ..but its really costly..does jpa provide loans for that? or another option would be scholarships..but then again ..those offering pharmacy are very limited compared to other courses..i feel like im reaching a dead end..haha..but im not letting my hopes down..i just hope theres someone to guide and inspire me..strangely i see that in u..though i dun noe u very well.. but thanks for listening anyways..=)

    • poobalan says:

      hi cping,

good day to you too. hope you have a great weekend today.

its true that pharmacy is a popular course, thus competition is extremely high. i would say your chance is quite slim.

JPA don’t provide loan, but PTPTN does. JPA provides loan for those studying in foreign universities AFTER finishing their first semester there.

you can try for pharmacy in “cheaper” uni like msu, aimst, ucsi etc. check the uni offering pharmacy, and you’ll find some are high as 150k, while some are low as 80k.

this is a blog focusing on guiding students, so do we really need to know each other to help out? 🙂

      • cping says:

oh well ,since u put it that way..lol
yea my chances are quite slim..fully noted…i guess i’ll try for other unis and ipts..wish me luck!
        one more thing,i’ve gotta say..wat u’re doing here is really really awesome..its helps a lot..really appreciate it..im a fan already =)

  10. saddest says:

if my cgpa are not hit to 2.00,i should take risk to retake the stpm?isit hard to retake?or izit waste time?

    • poobalan says:

      hi saddest,

my first answer would be no need to resit but move on with life. get a diploma or foundation and continue degree since the extra one year you going to waste is same like retaking STPM.

BUT, in certain cases, it depends on your ambition, your plan to improve on the STPM results, and financial status – whether can get PTPTN loan or family can afford IPTS. was the initial results expected (only you can answer this)? May the results not good due to illness during exam, stress, lack of preparation etc?

  11. kumarendran says:

hi thre!! cn u recommend me any agencies tht sends studnt to ukraine??

  13. tina says:

sir,i juz get ma spm results..i gt c for chemistry…can i study pharmacy????????

  14. Kvin says:

sir just today i got my SPM results
    English-A
    Bm-B+
    maths-B+
physics biology sejarah moral, add maths-C+
    chemistry-D

so what course can i enroll to?

    sincerely,
    Vin

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Kvin,

you got 8 credits (considering A to C+). in terms of science/maths subjects: best result is B+ (maths).

maybe you should consider some arts or maths based programs (mass comm, management, IT, hospitality, maths, linguistics, etc). but if you feel you can do well in science-based program, can consider health science, pure science,).

also depends on what’s your interest.

  15. Tan says:

    Dear Poobalan:

I’m 2010 stpm student. I had always wanted to study medicine , unfortunately my stpm result is very but : C+ for PA & BIO, D+ for CHEM and F for MATHS. What should i do if i still want to do medicine?

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Tan,

you seriously need to reconsider if you can cope with medical program. the usual requirements are minimum 3 Bs for medicine, which indicates how hard the program is.

if you still insist, then either (i) resit STPM, (ii) do some other pre-u/foundation USING SPM results, (iii) do some medicine related degree like biotech etc, and later do medical degree, (which takes nearly 8 years i think).

  16. dhyva says:

    Hello,Sir
    Good Day !!!
just got my spm result (2009)!!! Below are my results.

    BM – (A-)
    BI – (B+)
    P.MORAL (B)
    SEJARAH (C)
    MATHEMATICS ( D )
    P. SENI VISUAL ( C )
    ADD MATHS (G)
    L.KEJURUTERAAN (G)
    PHYSICS (G)
    CHEMYSTRY (G)

sir,can i apply for teaching (maktab) or can u suggest me any other suitable courses for me !!!

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Dhyva,

currently intake for teaching is open via maktab and requirement is below:

Mempunyai kelayakan akademik di peringkat Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) dengan mendapat cemerlang dalam mana-mana tiga mata pelajaran dan kepujian dalam tiga mata pelajaran berikut :
      2.5.1 Bahasa Melayu
      2.5.2 Sejarah
      2.5.3 satu mata pelajaran yang lain serta;
      2.5.4 lulus Bahasa Inggeris
      2.6
Memenuhi syarat dan kelayakan khusus bidang pengajian yang dipohon (Rujuk e-Panduan Permohonan)

you can refer to my blog’s Application Page. obviously your results are not good enough.

other options, since you have 5 credits (A to C), means you can try for diploma (in politeknik) which application opens today. i won’t advice STPM as it its quite hard to study. if your parents can support, then you can study in private college/uni for foundation in Arts, Language, Business or diploma in courses related to management, IT, business, Tourism etc. Your science/maths results not good, so i won’t advice engineering/science program.

      also, what’s your interest?

      • dhyva says:

sir…can business IT can promise bright future for me ? about…college, can suggest for me ? reasonable and recognised !!! please..sir !!!

        • poobalan says:

          Dhvya,

Bright future depends on you actually, need to study hard and get first class 🙂

there’s many college but try to study in those that are recognised a bit. i suggest you go for those like SEGI, APIIT, UTAR, TARC, KDU, sunway, and so on. try searching at http://www.afterschool.my or http://www.studymalaysia.com for courses and colleges. you can also attend Facon Education fair this weekend at KLCC.

remember the program need to MQA recognised.

  17. nita says:

sir,,i need ur help….i wana do foundation in science first…then continue ma degree in pharmacy??is this the right choice????n where can i du ma foundation sir?????

    • poobalan says:

      Nita,

i assume you are SPM leaver? if yes, then you are correct. you do foundation in science OR diploma in pharmacy, and then continue with degree. you can look up the courses list at http://www.afterschool.my or studymalaysia.com.my

pharmacy can try at msu, aimst, mahsa, masterskill, ucsi, cucms, segi etc.

  18. kalaiselvi says:

    hello sir,
my cousin sis had dilemma with SPM results. she is not sure wat to apply after this. she had applied for matric. is there any other suggestion for her.
    She obtained
    BM – A
    ENG – A
    MATHS – A
    SEJ – A
    MORAL – A
    ADD MATHS – A
    PHYSICS – A
    CHEMIS – B
    BIO – B
    CHINESE – C
advance thanks for your advice sir.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Kalaiselvi,

Her results are quite good with 7 As. She can consider some maths or physics based course if she’s interested in science based programs. i think it depends on her interest in fact. she can try JPA scholarship as some of them require 7As as well.

She can also consider STPM or continue foundation in private college/uni.

  19. Unhappy says:

    Dear Sir,

I just got my SPM results

    BM – B+
    BI – A
    MORAL – B
    SEJARAH – C+
    MATHEMATICS – C+
    ADDITIONAL MATHEMATICS – G
    PHYSICS – C
    CHEMISTRY – D
    BIOLOGY – C

I do not have any definite plans but could you please suggest me a good course that I could pursue with

    Thank you

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Unhappy,

its hard and risky to suggest because it also depends on your interests, skills, personality as well. from your results, i gather engineering/science/maths are not suitable. your language is OK, and you have 5 credits. so why not go for courses like IT, Business, Management, mass comm, tourism, hospitality, physiotherapy, counseling, marketing, HR and so on.

  20. kumar says:

halo..sir i have gt 5As and the rest all C’s..i wnna do mdcine..i usually score well for my trials..dunno wht happen!! overcnfdnt mayb..cn i resit my SPM?? i reli wan to do medicine!! ‘A’ for all my teras subjects

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Kumar,

Since your science subjects are all Cs, then may be still a chance. you have to do either foundation in science or A-Levels. but competition is tough for places. better you check with the colleges that offer medicine program first.

      • kumar says:

@poobalan, i want to do my foundation in science in the same time redo my olevel at nirwana.–kiling 2birds with a stone!!haha.u think ok ah sir??

        • poobalan says:

          kumar,

what’s the purpose? which 2 birds you want to kill? if you can enter foundation, then just use those results to enter degree.

  21. vigneshwari says:

    hello sir,

i got 11 As ( 5A+, 2A, 4A-) in the spm exam…i want to apply for the jpa scholarship..went through the application procedure..but am confused because throughout till the end, there wasn’t a column for me to list down the courses i desire to do…could you pls explain..

    thank you.

  22. gowri says:

Dear sir how to apply for teaching English as second language ( Tesol ) – jpa scholarship? My results are
    BM:A+
    BI:A+
    MORAL:A-
    SEJARAH:A
    MATHS:A+
    ADD MATHS:B+
    ACCOUNTS:A-
    ECONOMICS:A
    PHYSICS:A-
    CHEMISTRY:A-
    BIOLOGY:A-

sir if you have any suggestions on which course I should apply instead kindly inform me.thank you very much.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Gowri,

TESOL is not offered by JPA. its offered by MARA.

you have excellent results, so i would say its up to you to choose based on your interest. Looking at JPA’s requirements, you will have few options. see which one fits you best as you can only choose one.

you can also consider IPTS as they may offer scholarships. go to FACON fair this weekend at KLCC or visit the various open days at IPTS (refer Open Days page).

  23. vigneshwari says:

sorry sir, my question earlier was not very clear, i wish to reformulate it as follows…
when going through the jpa application procedure, i chose the penajaan as jpa (program dlm negara)…but my options were only sains and sastera…i chose sains expecting more options under it but there were none…on the other hand, when you opt for the jpa (program luar negara) there are so many choices…what exactly are the courses given for the students who decide to do sains locally ?

  24. maan says:

    hello sir,

i just got my spm result.

    SJ-D
    P.MORAL-B+
    ADD.MATH-G
    P.AKAUN-D
    EKONOMI-E
    KESUSASTERA TAMIL-B+

I do not have any definite plans but my family members told me to apply maktab.can u suggest any suitable courses for me?or i can apply to maktab?

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Maan,

i think maktab needs at least 3 subjects cemerlang, and another 3 credits, so you can’t apply for teaching program. you may want to consider repeating SPM to improve your results but i won’t do that (that’s entirely up to you). you can consider taking up suitable diploma program in politeknik which requires 3 credits. your best results are Moral, BM and Tamil, so you may have to take something related to that. I suggest you look at the Application page here: http://poobalan.com/blog/education-help/application/ and see if you can apply for anything (poli application is there).

if you are interested to study in private college/uni, then register for diploma programs (can apply for PTPTN loan). if can, go for FAcon education fair or the MIC’s Vetri Padigal seminars. Or talk to DHRAA or C3G of EWRF. all this contact/info is in Guidance page : http://poobalan.com/blog/education-help/guidance/

plz help me sir i really need ur help now….

    • poobalan says:

      Hi jay,

you can go for teaching via MOE program, if you are interested to be a teacher.

you already applied for IPTA and matric, so wait for that results. Not sure if you can get or not.

you have excellent results for science and maths, and also tamil.

      you can go for SPTM.

you can go for politeknik to study diploma program.

you can study foundation or diploma program in many IPTS.

you can try JPA scholarship (for those programs that ask for 3 As or so)

so you see there’s big future ahead!

    BT- B+
    MORAL- B+
    MATH- D
    SEJARAH- E
    BIOLOGY- D
    PHYSICS- E
    CHEMISTRY- E
    ADMTH- G

Sir, cn u help me…im really confused alot sir

    tq

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Roja,

i think medical is definitely out of question as you did poorly in the critical subjects. IT is a bit OK, but again, your maths results is poor. Law also a bit hard, but can still give a try.

if finance is not a problem, try for diploma program in IPTS based on the best subjects you have – BM, BI, BT, Moral. Can go for business admin, management, hospitality, etc.

you can also try for politeknik program. Check my Applications page.

i won’t suggest science/engineering programs since your results indicate its not suitable.

  27. roja says:

    plz give some suggestion sir

  28. Shaaren says:

hello sir……..in this year’s SPM,i didn’t do very well…….. I got B for my english,C’s for my Bahasa malaysia and Science,E’s for Maths and Geography………I’m not satisfied with my result……….What course can I choose for my future studies…………

  29. anisa says:

dear sir..i got b+ for my bm and art..b for my bi,pend.islam and science,c for my ekonomi asas,d for my prinsip akaun and math,e for my sejarah..can you suggest me the best course that i can continue.can i continue at multimedia college..thanks sir.

    • poobalan says:

      hi anisa,

you got 6 credits, so diploma is not a problem. you can even consider a foundation program so that can continue for degree.

as for best course, i can see that your BM, Art, BI, Islam and Science are the better results. so, try something based on this like: Interior Design, Fashion, Visual Communications, Mass Comm, IT, Language, Management, HR, Marketing, Advertising, etc.

And yes, multimedia is a good option too. What/where is multimedia college?

Why not go to Education Fair this weekend at KLCC? can see more options!

  30. Khanz says:

Hi sir,i got the SPM result like that:
    Melayu C+
    Inggeris D
    Moral B
    Sejarah B
    Mathematics A
    Science A-
    Add Mathematics A-
    Prinsip Perakaunan A+
    Ekonomi A-
    ICT A

I do not have any plans but could you suggest me a suitable course
    Thank you,sir

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Khanz,

you got fairly good results, with 6 As and 2Bs. Hard for me to suggest, but looking at your results: why not go for accounting, management, business, maths, finance, related programs.

BUT: it also depends on your interest. so you have ask yourself this..

your languages needs improvement, so you might want to consider taking some classes to improve on that, because regardless what you study, you’ll need to have good understanding of English AND/OR BM.

if you can consider private colleges, then can enrol in foundation program and continue with degree. if you like accounting, can later do ACCA.

also try visit education fairs or open days in big colleges so that can listen to their talks and understand about careers.

      • Khanz says:

@poobalan, Thank sir,but if private colleges not in my consider, how to go for accounting, management, maths, finance, related programs? Actually i apply the IPTA,you think my result can?? And if i wan be a teacher, can i ??

        • poobalan says:

          hi khanz,

if IPTS is not your option, then go for (i) STPM, (ii), IPTA 9if you are bumiputra or want to apply diploma program), (iii) politeknik (diploma).

teacher can, but for the moment, application for primary school teacher degree is open. deadline is 16/3 and you need PIN number from BSN. Refer to my Application page and better hurry!

  31. livin says:

sir i got B for bio,phy and maths. but i got C for chem and D for add maths can i do medic…i aldy finish foundation and i got 1A n 2B

    • poobalan says:

      hi livin,

where did you do your foundation and what foundation is that? why not ask your college? my view is that if you already enrolled and completed your foundation program then that results would be used to proceed to degree.

  32. pinktokki says:

    hello sir.

I just got 3A’s 2B+ 4B’s and 2C’s in my SPM 2009 (results taken this year).

I’m really interested in theTESL program.
    I got :
    A -Bahasa Inggeris
B+ -EST (dunno if it still counts)
    3B -GCE-0 (is it ok)

are these qualified enough for this program??
I’m really scared since I didn’t do that well in SPM.
And I don’t want to end up not going anywhere. Can u possibly take this program just with a 3A in ur SPM??
I want to enroll to an IPTA. Is it ok? or is competition still really high?

    you’re help is much appreciated.
please reply asap cause i’m going to fill my UPU form tomorrow night.
    thank you.

    • poobalan says:

      hi pinktokki,

overall you got all subjects at least credits, so its no problem. As for TESL, you can only enter diploma program in IPTA or Teaching program (degree) under MOE (both links are in the Application page of this blog). if you are a bumiputra, then you can apply for degree program via foundation/matriculation in IPTA.

A- is OK, no problem. can enter diploma in TESL. or you can enter foundation in arts/language/social studies and then continue degree.

you can search afterschool.my or studymalaysia.com to see which IPTS offers such programs.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi CK,

STPM is tough, but not impossible. if you can find the discipline and mentality to study, can do well. its totally up to you. your results are OK considering the lowest marks are just C+.

what’s your ambition and how does STPM help to achieve that? if your parents can cover some cost, and you can apply PTPTN, then you can consider IPTS for foundation or diploma program before continuing degree.

    • poobalan says:

      hi sha,

i think still got chance in some of the colleges because minimum is C in few subjects like sciences and maths to do foundation. in some college/uni, the requirements are at least B in sciences/math subject.

try the colleges offering medicine like utar, aimst, unikl, cucms, monash etc.

  37. chal says:

    chem-B

cn u sggst me the best course that suit me..cn i tk mdical?
cn i knw if my rslts r qualified for the jpa or mara scholrship in mdical field?

    • poobalan says:

      hi chal,

you got 6As and 3Bs which is quite good results. but your Bs are in sciences subject so JPA/Mara is not possible if you refer to their rules.

you can take medicine in IPTS.

as for best course, it depends on your interest. your results indicate that you did well with As and Bs so its hard to say what course is suitable for you. maybe something to do with language or maths since you got A+ in these subjects.

  38. kesavartni says:

    hello sir.
i just received my spm results, scoring A+ in bm, addmaths and maths, A in bio, english and chemistry, A- in physics, B+ in sejarah and moral and C+ in accounts. what are the options that i have to pursue my studies? im planning to take up form 6 but that would be my last decision. many of my seniors and relatives are advicing me not to waste the two years doing form 6 as it would be hard, especially for science stream students. i am planning to do something related to forensic science, medical lab technologist or maybe medicines, since i have scored As in my science subjects. i have applied for matrix, ipta and polytechnic, but i have no confidence in getting any as i have a C+ in my results. please sir, urgent advice needed. thank you very much sir.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi kesavartni,

you did quite well with 7As especially in the important subjects. in one way, F6 is tough and not many can secure good results to enter their preferred course in IPTA. Its like another round of lottery – you study hard, and even if get good results, not necessary can get preferred course in IPTA. so, that’s why some students skip F6.

your options: continue with your plans but in IPTS. you can enrol in foundation (and try to get some scholarship/discount) for fees. there’s few colleges/uni that offer medicine, forensic science, Med lab tech. with your results, entering foundation is not a problem at all. problem will be cost. if you want to pursue medicine, then probably you should talk to the placement agents i listed in Related Websites page of this blog for places in overseas that offer medicine for lower cost.

if you want study locally, then approach the IPTS and see what they can offer. But remember, for medicine the PTPTN loan won’t even cover for 3 years, so another 2 years have to find other source.

you can get politeknik as the C plays no role for science courses you selected. my worry is that your results are quite good, so the politeknik route will only provide diploma and later you have to try apply degree to IPTA or IPTS again.

some of the JPA programs (not medic or engineering) just require 3 to 7As, so why not try for those. if you do well in the interview, you too can get a scholarship.

      • kesavartni says:

thanks a lot sir. but sir, how about matriculation? i have sent my application for it last year itself. is it possible for me to get a place there?

  39. School Leaver... says:

    Dear Sir,
I am school leaver and already registered for the stpm 2010 as private candidate because now I working as acc assistant…However, I have some doubt regardings further study…
1.) If let say I would do a partime degree in Open University Malaysia next year, after graduation can I continue partime/distance learning in Master in local university?? This is because I am not sure whether the degree of OUM recognized by the local university authority…

    Thanks for reading my enquiries…

    From School Leaver…

    • poobalan says:

      Hi School Leaver,

local uni means IPTA? IPTAs recognise degree which is in JPA list, so pls check my blog for the Related Websites page and there’s link to check if OUM degree is in there. For IPTA, they always refer to BM at SPM level, usually need credit.

secondly, some IPTAs do accept more flexible entry via work experience and so on. so i think shouldn’t be a problem.

Hi, was wondering which courses of JPA can i apply for. Will the B+ in Sejarah limit me?

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Qiwen,

All JPA PILN scholarship requirements have between 7 to 9 A- minimum, INCLUDING Sejarah. so the anwser is yes, you can’t apply.

  41. durga says:

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Durga,

your sciences subjects not strong results.

you can apply for teaching (tamil in primary school) via KPLSPM. closing date is 16 March, and you need PIN number. check my Application page and better be fast!

other than that, you can try politeknik which have plenty of courses. read it and see which is ok for you. poli have minimum 3 credits requirement, so no problem for you.

or go to IPTS for some diploma or foundation program (try for some business, management, IT, arts, hospitality, area if you are not interested in science/engineering).

      or take STPM.

  42. yamuna says:

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Yamuna,

i was updated that matric intake is to be made before SPM exams, so i guess matric is not possible now.

you can try for primary school (KPLPSM) which offers degree course. deadline in 16 march. check Application page of this blog.

      you can continue STPM.

you can go for politeknik (diploma programs). refer Application page as well.

or can try for IPTS. study foundation or a-levels, and later continue degree (take loan from PTPTN or apply for scholarships at that time).

it also depends on your ambition/interest/plan.

  43. ck says:

I want to become a businessman.Do you know which colleges have business in sci or dont have this course ?Alevel and foundation which 1 better and If i study uni in malaysia ?

    • poobalan says:

      CK,

to be a businessman, may not need a degree 🙂 just ask bill gates or look at lim goh tong. businessman means person doing business. do you think a doctor who runs his own clinic or a plumber who runs his own contractor company are businessman? how about a char koaw teoy stall owner? also businessman? in short, you can study anything and still end up as businessman. if you want to study business or management, also can. for that, you can take up either foundation (should be easier) or a-levels (harder). if study in malaysia, then take foundation or diploma and then continue degree.

i never heard of any business in science program before.

i heard tat SEGi college is gd in tis course..hw much the cost for this??thanks again sir..

    • poobalan says:

      Jay,

Accounting is a good field, and demand is always there because many companies need services of accountants and accounting staff.

SEGI is quite well known because they have been running accounting courses since 1970s i think, when they were known as Systematic colleges. other well known colleges include TARC as well. As for fees, just check with them 🙂

    plz help me..thx..

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Grace,

you can do medic, but not via JPA/Mara since they ask for minimum 9A-. Same goes for many other courses under PILN JPA.

Matrix (govt) is already closed for application. your next choice would be in IPTS or continue SPTM and later apply for IPTA.

You can check List of IPTS offering medic program at http://poobalan.com/blog/education-help/list/

you may consider talking to placement companies (agents) who may suggest IPTS in overseas which are cheaper than in malaysia. Refer to Related Website page in this blog.

      Hi Nanthakumar,

which matrix did you apply for?

as for IPTA, i think got good chance. you applied for diploma right?

you should attend F6 while waiting for UPU and politeknik results. as a back up in case never get any offer.

or can consider IPTS and take up PTPTN loan to cover expenses.

    Hello sir again…it’s me pinktokki.

I thought about it again…and I was wondering if i apply maktab or is it now called institut perguruan something.
like u said teaching program as my second choice.
    (teaching english)

as i told u before my results were 3A’s…u can refer my previous post (march 12).

can i or can i not apply? one of my friends said if i wanted to apply, i need at least 6a’s…but my mum is a teacher and she said english teachers are highly on demand right now and as long as ur english is fine and bm is a credit….u can move on (only if i get accepted)…

    i’m really stuck right now…
and can i ask u, in mass communication.. what do u basicly learn in this course? cause usually many artists are from this course..and the entertainment world is not my cup of tea…

thank u so much for the help earlier.
hope to hear from u asap:)

    • poobalan says:

      hi pinktokki,

yes you can apply for teaching. refer to their rules:

Mempunyai kelayakan akademik di peringkat Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) dengan mendapat cemerlang dalam mana-mana tiga mata pelajaran dan kepujian dalam tiga mata pelajaran berikut :
      2.5.1 Bahasa Melayu
      2.5.2 Sejarah
      2.5.3 satu mata pelajaran yang lain serta;
      2.5.4 lulus Bahasa Inggeris
      2.6
Memenuhi syarat dan kelayakan khusus bidang pengajian yang dipohon (Rujuk e-Panduan Permohonan)

to study english, need at least a C.

mass comm is not what artists study. its a field for reporters/journalists/broadcasters, publication, public relations, and mass media related (tv/radio). it can involve jobs like newscasters, editors, managers, and so on.

    • poobalan says:

if she want to do teaching, apply by 28 March via the link in Applications page. she can try for SK school, go for science or maths subject teaching.

as for tesl, if diploma level can check if offered in IPTA at UPU website.

if IPTS, there’s plenty of colleges which offer diploma tesl or she can do foundation and later do degree. just go to the college and register.
