Now I’m confused. The new government has announced 10,000 sq ft land and RM40,000 from the developer. Great news, except that this was also announced last year by Khir Toyo! Does this mean the community is seeing double? Or is a case of promises made real? Khir Toyo promised, but Khalid approved it. No matter how it is looked at, the land and money is still coming from one source – the developer. Let’s see what the state government office, Khir Toyo, Samy Vellu, and Kamal Ganapathy said last year:
The state secretary’s office did issue statement (another one here) that a plot was allocated by the developer before it was allowed to proceed with demolition notice. The said that EXCO Sivalingam (who passed away earlier) also knew about it.
This was Samy said after the temple was demolished:
Samy Vellu said the state government had allocated a 10,000 square feet land in Shah Alam for the temple to be rebuilt. “The menteri besar has given his word that they will help to rebuild the temple.”
Khir Toyo on 8th December announced that RM40,000 has been given by developer to rebuilt the temple.
On the demolished temple, Dr Khir said the developer had given RM40,000 to the temple committee to build a new one at the site given by the developer.
Khir Toyo and Kamala Ganapathy also said the following:
Selangor Unity and Plantation Workers committee chairman Kamala Ganapathy said following the temple demolition, the landowner had prepared a 10,000 sq ft site to enable the temple to be moved behind the Keretapi Tanah Melayu workers quarters at Rimba Jaya.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo said that many people had misunderstood the Rimba Jaya temple issue.
He said the state was unable to give land as the temple was on private property. He said the state had acted in the interest of the squatters. The builder was required to provide a housing area for the squatters, places of worship and two kindergartens, including one for the Indians, before it developed the land.
Hopefully this is not a new syndrome affecting new government – “lembu punya susu, sapi dapat nama” (cow’s milk, but buffalo gets name)!
Demolished Hindu temple to be rebuilt on new site
SHAH ALAM: A new site for the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Kampung Rimba Jaya, Padang Jawa, which was demolished in November last year has been approved. Mayor Mazalan Md Noor said the temple would be rebuilt soon on a 10,000sq feet land near the Keretapi Tanah Melayu quarters, a much bigger site than the original temple.
He was speaking to reporters after Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Shah Alam MP Khalid Abd Samad visited the Rimba Jaya flats Monday. The Hindu temple was ordered torn down by the authorities as it stood in the vicinity of the Rimba Jaya squatter settlement. The 11ha site in the area is owned by Ken Rimba Jaya Sdn Bhd.
“The developer has been directed by the state government to provide the land and RM40,000, the cost of the building construction. “It is up to the temple committee and the developer to decide when to start the temple construction,” he said. Mazalan said the Shah Alam City Council had cleared up the land to make way for the temple project.
Earlier, Khalid and Anwar had a dialogue with the Kampung Rimba Jaya residents and the demolition of the temple was among the hottest issues raised during the 15-minute meeting.
Khalid said the new state government was working hard to solve the squatter problems in the state.
This is surely a double dip. I think we Indians need to watch very carefully what Barisan Rakyat does. Selangor MB Khalid has done nothing but take the old promise by Khir Toyo to look as if he has done it. PKR we will be watching you.
Indians need to form a body to watch what the BR governments are doing for Indians. This does not seem to be a good start and Khalid has actually misled and cheated. RM40000, what can you built for this amount. A small decent temple cost RM 400000 – 500000, why the Selangor government didnt give any financial assistance. Are the temple committee members aware and capable enough to manage. So many questions and a lot of work to do. Poobalan we need a way forward.
I agree New_Indian,
the community needs to be vigilant at all times. the makkal must always keep an eye, as you said.
Granted that the new government will need some time to settle down and formulate new strategies/policies. For that, the people can give them some leeway. However, things like misleading the public should be rebuked. The state secretary/mayor must clarify their statement. Sometimes, this can be even a media mistake – they hear one thing, but write something else.
Samy Vellu did mention that he will raise some funds. I hope that the 40K is just for the temple, even though it is not enough. A separate amount should be given for the kindergarten.
Let’s see if the temple committee can offer any ideas or feedback. I shall ask around.

Toyo made the promise, Khalid made it happen. i dont see anything wrong in it. it is his responsibility to make it happen. plus he didnt make any claim saying it only happened becoz he became MB.
all he did was to make sure we receive what has been promised to us.
regarding the lack of fund to rebuild the temple, im sure the new MB wouldnt mind if we collect some fund on our own to build the temple better.
Dear Brother Madhavan,
The ignorance of Indians is the key for our conditions. If you recollect Gone Vellu and Khir Toyo statement earlier the land and money has been allocated earlier. That means authorisation has been given. If Khir Toyo was MB then under pressure he would have done exactly same.Khalid as the new MB just proceeded with it. But WHAT else he did. He could asked someone or ADUN to oversee the construction or keep an eye to ensure that temple is built.
Now who said temple construction cost RM40k, Does Khalid or Indians know what u get for this amount. Dont believe me go ask around. Maybe we can get the basic foundation thats all. Drains renovation in one of the temple in Negri recently cost RM25k. The demolished temple was in pretty good condition, I value at RM300k plus.
Watch my words, If no funding comes then I am sure it will take many many years before we collect donation through public and kumbabishegam to build a proper temple. If this is the case with most noted one, what’s the fate of others.
