No Temple Demolishment in KL Guarantee

This is indeed great news! However, words can be easily spoken but action is harder to implement. Not sure if Saravanan’s words carry any weight with the DBKL. There’s a committee which includes MHS and MIC which meets DBKL people on issues involving temples. I wonder if the deputy minister is referring to this committee when he meant by new policy.

According to Saravanan, temples will be relocated instead of demolishment:

We will offer an alternative piece of land to relocate temples affected by development

He gave an example of an area in Klang Valley with eight temples located in a small lane, which were affected by development work.

We gave them a piece of land to relocate and it is up to the temples’ authorities whether to build a large temple or maintain the eight at the new site

Saravanan also said that DBKL will not encourage (not allow?) new temples to be set up.

I hope they can start by settling the issue at Kampung Pandan Indian Settlement.

One can only wonder if this new policy is due to HINDRAF effect or MIC’s persuasion. No prizes for guessing the answer.

I don’t support any demolishments of houses of worship, doesnt matter which faith they belong to.

However, we Hindus need to be responsible for our own actions too. I have many times pointed out the cases where irresponsible actions by Hindus in erecting temples without due consideration to law, land ownership or sensitivities of other religions.

I stand by my statements that there are more than enough temples for Hindus in this country, in fact there are too many.

We need to be responsible in where we build temples. If we don’t have land, please get the money from the govt or pool your own resources to do that. Instead we simply build them anywhere we like. Be it on the road side, under the gutter, beside a drain, etc. No one even bothers to check the land ownership or even refer to the Hindu scriptures.

As such this invites trouble from authorities and also other races. Do we ever wonder why there are no churches, Sikh temples or Buddhist temples are built everywhere like Hindu “temples” ?

Some of these temples are also known for conducting rites that are nothing to do with Hinduism like animal sacrifices, musical shows, exorcisms and other stunts that turns the other races off. We have become a laughing stock.

While we can debate about the role of the govt, we also must change our ways. MIC and MHS had a tough time in getting these illegal temples in line. Still many of them do not want to merge for the fear of losing “income”.

You are from Klang rite, just drive from the Klang Hospital to the KESAS Highway entrance and count how many temples are there just within the 5 km on the road side (not counting the ones that away from the main road and within all these Tamans). I can count at least 6 small temples.

These temples are money making machines for some people. And some of the HINDRAF leaders are temple chairmen should indicate why these people are against demolishment or merger of these small temples. There are so many cases of the temple chairmen swindling money. In fact even the great national coordinator Thanendran is being alleged to have “misused” temple funds….Just ask the Penang guys and those who are familiar with Jalan Baru temple in Butterworth….

As this being due to HINDRAF pressure, Poobalan please check pre-GE and pre-Nov 25 news stories lah.

Samy Vellu had some sort of commitment from the PM and the state MBs on this. But somehow Khir Toyo broke the agreement in case of the Kg Jawa temple.
