After making an audacious request of RM300 million per annum till 2020, Samy clarifies that it is to raise “indian equity”, and to invest in agro-based business and school affairs.

The proposal have been submitted, but we all know what happens to proposals. 🙂

Due to the economic pressure and increased spending for subsidies, I doubt this proposal will be approved. Maybe at most, a one-off amount of 100 million to give some hope and alleviate the situation.

After Dr S.Subra suggested automatic scholarships, and many disgruntled SPM achievers gathered at Perak and Selangor, PSD comes out with explanation. How nice if this explanation is given earlier. It would answer many questions.

Now it is revealed that minimum of 13A1s is the cutoff point for academic criteria. In others, all the 140 students who complained earlier don’t stand a chance. Not qualified la! PSD should make the criteria public as soon as the closing date for application is reached. This will ensure students and parents would not wait anxiously and can make alternative plans. In fact, data on number of A1 achievers should be read from MES and matched with the number of scholarships available. In this way, it is possible to know how many A1s is needed to qualify for academic criteria. Probably, if 2000 places are available, PSD can pick the top 4000 or 5000, and do their shortlisting from there. » Read more: PSD claims cream of crop selected for scholarship

Hmm….every year also same drama. One just have to search the Internet to see many cases of students from all races complaining about the rejection.

Why is there no solution for this problem? MIC’s Dr S.Subra suggesting automatic scholarship offer for those who get 10As and above. MCA and Gerakan still quiet as with opposition.

Transparency is the key here. People deserve to know why things happen as such. Then, they should be able to give feedback and rectify the errors or shortcomings. Unfortunately, information flow is not so free as it is worried that the public is not smart enough to understand things.

He is echoing what parents, students and many sane malaysian are asking, begging, cajoling for all this while. By making such a clear rule, it will serve as motivation for students, ensure transparency, and improve the perception of PSD in the eyes of the public.

Now, did the minister suggest this at the cabinet today? No point making press statement because the public can’t do much.

MIC unhappy only 34 offered JPA scholarships

We read yesterday about Kamine Devi who scored 10A1s not being offered anything  by PSD (JPA). She should also consider registering an appeal via MIC since they have a representative in cabinet. The community has no choice but to rely on MIC in this case because of the race based politics.

As Samy suggests, it should be an automatic offer for students who fulfill certain criteria  – certain number of As and/or family income. The should be a system integration between MES and JPA so that details of students can be linked. This will avoid cases of not being able to apply online, loss of data, incomplete/invalid application, incorrect data entry etc., and most importantly ensure no deserving students are left out. We are sick and tired of reading in the papers, year after year, students begging for scholarship. Simple thing also cannot solve.

Imagine only 34 get scholarship, out of possibly 2000++ places. Not even 5%, but about 2% only! And already have 194 appeals.

Let’s wait for MCA to reveal the numbers.   » Read more: MIC unhappy only 34 offered JPA scholarships
