PKR newsletter named Makkal Sakthi

Alamak! Would Hindraf allow this? Makkal Sakthi is a common word, no one copyrighted it yet, so technically PKR can call their newsletter as such. However, if HINDRAF is to remain apolitical and as a pressure group and still be associated with the term “Makkal Sakthi”, then HINDRAF must ask PKR to not use the term for their newsletter. They must not be seen swaying too much to any one side, even though currently they are supportive of Pakatan side due to their similar causes.

KUALA LUMPUR: “Makkal Sakthi”, previously the rallying cry for the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), is now the name for the Tamil edition of Suara Keadilan, Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s newsletter.
The first issue hit newsstands yesterday and the copies were quickly snapped up by members of the Indian community.PKR information chief Tian Chua said yesterday that despite the “rebellious” title, the weekly newsletter is printed with permission from the Home Ministry.

Hmm….every year also same drama. One just have to search the Internet to see many cases of students from all races complaining about the rejection.

Why is there no solution for this problem? MIC’s Dr S.Subra suggesting automatic scholarship offer for those who get 10As and above. MCA and Gerakan still quiet as with opposition.

Transparency is the key here. People deserve to know why things happen as such. Then, they should be able to give feedback and rectify the errors or shortcomings. Unfortunately, information flow is not so free as it is worried that the public is not smart enough to understand things.

Exclusive interview with the guy who defeated Vigneswaran (Kota Raja seat). He talks about his portfolio, representing Indian community, temple problems, health issues, etc.

Interestingly, he says there is only one Indian EXCO in the state because another is in ISA (Manoharan) while the other is still a junior member (Bukit Melawati seat). Seniority can be used as one of the criteria to select EXCO, along with experience, skills, education, etc. However, Xavier said that the EXCO need to reflect the racial composition of the state, effectively meaning a quota system. Now, this is the same thing mentioned in Perak as well. The sole guideline should always be the best person for the job, not the person based on color of his hair or skin. Probably pressure from certain quarters forced the government to use this “state racial composition” as a reason. » Read more: interivew with Dr Xavier Jayakumar

3 Indians EXCOs remain a dream

Earlier, NST reported that there may be 3 Indian EXCO’s in Perak, with DAP “allocating” 2 seats out of 6, and PKR “allocating” 1 out of 3. There were even confident words from a DAP “insider” as well in the report.

As it went, in the end only ONE Indian was sworn in on Saturday – Sivanesan from DAP. Both Sivakumar and Sivasubramaniam were left with wishful thinking only. What happened to DAP’s 2 “allocated” seats? Did they chose the best men/women for the job?  So  it ended up as 5-1, instead of 4-2. » Read more: 3 Indians EXCOs remain a dream

This are excerpts from the MK interview (full article here) with Wan Azizah:

You have listed five issues as your agenda, would you like to elaborate?

… Also, there is the issue of the ISA (Internal Security Act) detainees. We have human rights but the record is not that great comparatively. ISA has always been used against political dissidents, (Hindraf legal adviser and newly-elected Kota Alam Shah state assemblyperson) M Manoharan especially has to be freed unless you charge him in open court. What crime has he done? I also feel that the environment itself is a very big issue, we have laws but the enforcement is something else. » Read more: Wan Azizah and Anwar on Hindraf and ISA
