He said Indians had taken part in the illegal demonstration recently to register their anger over the inadequacy in the implementation of projects by the Government.”Their anger is not because I had not raised questions about or fought for the plight of the community. We have done this many times and I have the documents to prove this if anyone says I did not raise these in the Cabinet,” he said.
[ so problem is whatever raised not taken into consideration? He admits that the Indians march for a correct reason?]

“I was angry because there was no order to demolish the houses, temples and mosques. They did not give orders for the temples and mosques. They only had an order to get the occupants to vacate the houses. “But I am still wondering why they wanted to demolish the temple first. I think there must be a personal reason or someone could have hated the temple,” Samy Vellu said. He said he would raise funds to construct a temple at a new site in Padang Jawa and hand it over to the people.
[looks like he is unhappy with the immigrant MB. Now, which one is lying, Selangor MB or SV? Why need to raise funds? Selangor govt said will pay for the cost already. Developer also agreed to provide land help shift. What is this…miscommunication or lying at the highest level?]

Below is excerpt from the Star today:

He said Indians had taken part in the illegal demonstration recently to register their anger over the inadequacy in the implementation of projects by the Government. “Their anger is not because I had not raised questions about or fought for the plight of the community. We have done this many times and I have the documents to prove this if anyone says I did not raise these in the Cabinet,” he said.

Samy Vellu said he was not the kind of representative who would ignore the people's problems and “have fun” instead. “I work from the time I wake up in the morningtill 1am. Why? I do so for the betterment of the community.

“Many say the community has not improved. I can’t believe this. If they say what we have got is not enough, I’ll agree and I’ll request more. I have demanded for opportunities according to our population size, not only with the current Prime Minister but also with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Hussein Onn,” he said.

On Tamil schools, Samy Vellu said that he and MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting have been fighting in the Cabinet for a long time for all vernacular schools to be turned into government-aided schools.

He said there are 522 Tamil schools in the country, of which 180 are government-aided and the rest are partially-aided. “From 1983 till today, we have rebuilt 76 Tamil schools. I don’t know whether some people have eyesight problems or those schools are 'magical' schools. I can see them but others can’t. At all times, Tamil schools are being built,” he said.

Samy Vellu said he had asked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi not to allow any quarters to demolish any temples in the future.

“Whichever temple it may be, no one should go to the extent of demolishing it. If a temple has a problem, it should be brought to my attention. I’ll visit the place and I’ll get the appropriate allocation from the Government and make the necessary arrangements to rebuild the temple. I’ve said firmly that only then can a temple be relocated,” he said.

He said the temple in Padang Jawa was built on private land and the land owners had obtained a court order two years ago to get the people staying there to vacate.

"Is the opposition really worried about the state of affairs of the Indians, or is it trying to win support for the coming elections?"
[ the same can be asked of all political parties. That's why they exist, no?]

"You mean, for 50 years, the MIC did not do anything?
[more likely the last 30 years its been downhill as compared to the 1st 20 years]

MIC acknowledged that the community had some chronic problems, such as in the area of education opportunities and also the relocation of estate workers.
[ aik! I thought everytime they said life is rosy and everyone is happy. Now, the community have some chronic problem???]

He said the MIC was trying to resolve these problems, but nothing could be done overnight.
[ 50 years is not overnight. Even 30 years is not overnight. If can convert one school every year to fully aided, we would have extra 30 schools to the 180].

"We also need more statistics on the problems facing the Indians so that we can bring them up with the government. This is now a priority for us."
[ Why not use YSS to gather statistics? They seem to look more capable. But really, now only want to collect statistics??? Never had monthly reports from divisions on poverty, unemployment, education etc? Only have statistics on voters and voting trend is it? Err…what was your priority before this?]

youth wing wanted to compile a list of problems in every area so that relevant action could be taken.
[ yeah..compile and add to the pile of neverending reports.]

"I have told all youth members to go on to the ground and gather all the information they can get and fax it to state youth secretariats daily."
[who pays for the fax cost? Can we also fax information?]

Comedy Time with MIC Youth! 🙂

Hindraf 'hijacked' by opposition

KLANG: Opposition politicians have hijacked the Hindu Rights Action Front (Hindraf) and are now proclaiming themselves as saviours of the Indians, a senior MIC official said.

"They have hijacked it and are going around throwing all kinds of accusations at the MIC and the government," said MIC Youth chief S.A. Vigneswaran.

"Is the opposition really worried about the state of affairs of the Indians, or is it trying to win support for the coming elections?"

Speaking at the start of a nationwide roadshow by the MIC Youth movement here on Friday night, Vigneswaran said the opposition kept saying the MIC had not done anything for the Indians.

"You mean, for 50 years, the MIC did not do anything?

"If this is true, why didn't these so-called heroes do anything all this while?"

The roadshow is to explain to the youth members the current issues and what needed to be done.

Vigneswaran said the MIC acknowledged that the community had some chronic problems, such as in the area of education opportunities and also the relocation of estate workers. He said the MIC was trying to resolve these problems, but nothing could be done overnight.

"We also need more statistics on the problems facing the Indians so that we can bring them up with the government. This is now a priority for us."

He said the youth wing wanted to compile a list of problems in every area so that relevant action could be taken.

"I have told all youth members to go on to the ground and gather all the information they can get and fax it to state youth secretariats daily."

MIC to counter false claims

source

PENANG: We will fight back! That’s the stern message given by MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu to quarters who make baseless allegations against the party.

He said the party would adopt a new approach to quash false allegations that the party had not been helping the Indians. “The old trend (of the party) is that we keep on working without boasting about our contributions to society especially the Indians. “The new trend will see us fighting against our adversaries to prove them wrong.

“If they give false news, we will immediately correct them, complete with all the particulars of what we have been doing.  “We are not going to keep quiet any more because we’ve been quiet for the last two months and allowed people to say whatever they want,” he told reporters after meeting branch and divisional leaders from the state MIC at Hotel Equatorial yesterday.

Samy Vellu said it was wrong for some Indians to say that the community had not achieved any progress for the past 50 years. He said it was a baseless allegation because the Indian community had achieved 60% of progress and the MIC would continue with its work and struggle to achieve a 100% progress for them.

Samy Vellu also said the MIC would set up constituency service centres (CSC) at 11 MIC divisions in Penang to complement duties carried out by the division and branch leaders. He said, among others, the centres would monitor the needs of the Indian community and identify areas where Indians are still living in poverty. Samy Vellu said similar centres would be set up in other states.

“I have instructed MIC secretary-general Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam to send out letters on Monday to the division chiefs on the setting up of the centres,” he said.

Diehard fans honour MGR

By : R.S. Kamini

KUALA LUMPUR: He was the only actor that Indian movie fans idolised as "God".

Even 20 years after Maruthur Gopala Ramachandran's death, Indians all over the world still worship the legendary actor.

Popularly known as MGR, the actor-turned-politician was not only famous for his evergreen movies and songs, but also for his charitable nature and leadership capability.

B. Saroja Devi, an actress who was introduced to the movie world by MGR, said she was one of the lucky few who had the opportunity to know him personally.

"He was never greedy for fame. He was polished and spoke softly and lovingly to everyone, including his co-workers and film crew."

She said his virtues were reflected in his movies.

Saroja Devi said every Indian should live by his moral teachings.

"He is the only actor whose picture is hung in every home and business premises in south India because our people loved him and admired him.

"People see him as God because he made a difference in their lives."

Saroja Devi was attending a soft launch of the inaugural MGR Festival (MGR Kalai Vizha) by Datin Seri Indrani Samy Vellu at Wisma Tun Sambanthan here yesterday.

The three-day festival, which began yesterday commemorates the actor's 20th death anniversary tomorrow. It is part of efforts by MGR Clubs all over the country to spread awareness about the Indian icon among the younger generation.

MGR made his film debut in 1935 in the film Sathi Leelavathi and followed it up with hit movies such as Nadodi Mannan, Rajakumari and Ulagam Suttrum Valiban.

Besides acting for 25 years, he also directed and produced his own movies before entering politics and becoming the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.

The festival's organising secretary, S.P. Manivasagam, said the event was the first of its kind in the region.

He said there would be an exhibition and performances at Wisma Tun Sambanthan and Wisma Peladang.

Most of the programmes, including the song and dance sequences, will be presented by youngsters.

"He should not become foreign to Indians, so we have to make an effort to ensure that his name and work are not forgotten, especially by the younger generation," said assistant organising secretary Solai Baskaran.

He added that MGR Clubs in Malaysia usually organise charity functions to commemorate his death anniversary every year.

samy gets negative reception at attam 100 vagai finals ?

i was watching Astro Vaanavil's Aatam 100 Vagai (dance competitions) finals on TV today night (had no choice since my nieces were hooked on to it). Surprised to Samy Vellu being called to hand over souvenirs/prizes to sponsors and the winners. Anyway, I had the impression that he got booed when he came on to the stage the first. I'm sure there were some "thumbs down" signs and noises by the crowd. However SV was all smiles, and even waved to the crowd sportingly.

Anyone can verify or correct me?
