Murugiah just a small boy says Kayveas

Mosquito party president says that its Youth chief is just small boy growing up. Hmm…very interesting. Maybe he meant it as a joke or the newspaper quoted him wrongly. Anyway, the issue is that PPP youth wing is having election this month, but Murugiah won’t be standing as he is way pass the age limit of 40. So, he will be without a party post until PPP elections next year.

Kayveas says Murugiah doesn’t want to continue as Youth leader:

“But he didn’t want. I think he wants to contest for a higher post,” Kayveas told a news conference after chairing PPP’s supreme council meeting yesterday.

Asked whether he and Murugiah have any differences, Kayveas said: “There is only a difference of style. I don’t know how Murugiah handles these stories but I’m mature enough.”

Asked if he sees Murugiah as a threat to his post, Kayveas replied: “What threat? He’s just a small boy growing up. I don’t think he will even get the support and nominations from the members.”

Hmm…a president shouldn’t belittle his own men. He cannot ridicule those who want to stand for party elections. Let the members decide want to nominate or not. Isn’t it ethically wrong to suggest that members don’t nominate A or B?

By the way, 3000 KIMMA members joined PPP, with two of leaders getting supreme council member position.

Gerakan and PPP updates

Well, Gerakan is trying to shed its Chinese party image. A Malay member is contesting vice president’s post. The guy is Dr Asharuddin Ahmad. This is an historic moment because he is the only Malay contesting for the post, and its the highest ever post contested by a Malay since 1980s, says The Star (NST says since 1968).He is the CEO of International College of Health Sciences and has been a member for 10 years now.

PPP, also known as the mosquito party due to Samy Vellu, reiterated that it will stick with BN. Its been quite some time since PPP appeared in news (except its Deputy Minister Murugiah and his Public Complaints Bureau), so I guess it was due. Nothing much to say, so they just repeat the old stuff. The party president Kayveas said PPP may leave BN in the future if a one-party system does not materialise.

The time has come to discuss how Barisan can be a single party and to do away with race-based politics, which can lead to political instability.

“Even Datuk Onn Jaafar who founded Umno, talked about a single party almost 60 years ago.

Kayveas said PPP had submitted a draft report on the single party system to the Barisan supreme council. Not bad! He should check if the report is still sitting along other reports and memorandums. You never know, so better check from time to time.

Gerakan and PPP may have same type of members in the future, so it makes sense to merge. Even MCA can join in if Ong Tee Keat gets his way and renames MCA to Malaysian Community Association, as told in his interview recently in the papers.

Note: Man Utd leading 1-0 at Blackburn, a headed goal from Wes Brown. Half time now.

Release Hindraf 5 says BN Youth and MIC

If the readers can recall back to the time near general elections, few of the BN component parties – MIC, MCA, Gerakan, and PPP were clamoring for release of HINDRAF 5 ISA detainees – since this was a sore point among the Indian community. MIC in particular had a horrendous time during the elections. Now, nowhere did we hear the “big brother” of BN saying that the detainees should be released.

So, imagine my surprise when today’s Star reported:

Barisan Nasional youth leaders plan to meet Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar over the call for the release of the five leaders of the Hindu Rights Action Force.

People’s Progressive Party Youth chief T. Murugiah said the Youth leaders from Umno, Gerakan, MIC and MCA had already agreed in principle to join the group which he would lead.

Can’t believe it la!

At least Samy Vellu is being direct in saying that by releasing the 5 fella, BN will win back some voters (and in the course save MIC’s hind). Let’s read some of Samy Vellu’s quotes on the second round of call by MIC to release the detainees:

It’s about time that they are released as they pose no danger to the security of the country.

“The government should not hold them any longer as it will prolong the Indian community’s ill-feelings towards the government,”

They only voiced out the problems and the frustrations of the Indian community.

“Similarly, the MIC has also been doing the same for the past few decades … so why detain them any longer?”

Err…that means MIC fellas also should have been in ISA for decades? Please la, don’t insult HINDRAF by comparing with MIC. Wait till rebranding finishes and people can see some improvement before attempting to do so.

Samy Vellu said many Barisan Nasional “die-hards” among the Indian community had voted for the opposition in the last general election as they felt that the five Hindraf leaders had been detained unjustly.

“It is not because they loved the opposition or they wanted a change but rather they vented their anger on the (BN) government,” he said.

He said the BN could regain their support if the five Hindraf leaders were released.

Right, the reason to release them is to gain more votes. So that the champion of the community can go around claiming that they were released due to his effort? Hopefully not.

I had asked the prime minister to release them on several occasions and also raised the matter at two BN Supreme Council meetings.

Now, this is very interesting. Note that Samy deftly avoided telling what was PM’s response to his request. Makes us all think. Did Samy Vellu really ask? Was the PM’s reply unmentionable? 🙂

Murugiah says teacher to be transferred but parents unhappy

I got to know that Deputy Minister in PM’s Dept, Murugiah was at the school yesterday along with angry and unhappy parents. Never heard anything from the sole guardian of the Indian community our beloved Samy Vellu. Maybe he has more pressing concerns involving RM70 million.

As expected, the teacher (I have got the name, Rusitah Abu Hassan, and photo, but unauthenticated) has “apologised” and Murugiah says the teacher will be transferred. He said disciplinary action will be recommended, but I think after a week it will be all quiet.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator T. Murugiah accompanied by few of his Public Complaints Bureau staff, who visited SMK Telok Panglima Garang yesterday, said the teacher regretted the incident and had apologised to the students. He said the issue was now considered closed and advised members of the Indian community
as well as parents of the affected students to accept the teacher’s apology.

She also said that she did not expect things to become so serious and has agreed to be transferred to another school.

It is still unknown if his head was working well when he was at the school. This is because the community is fuming and this deputy minister tries to sweep the mess under the carpet.

The Star reports that relatives of the affected students as well as the members of the Telok Panglima Garang Indian community refused to regard the matter as closed.

“She must make a public apology as she insulted all Indians and be transferred to a desk job and not
allowed to teach anymore,” said the group’s spokesman S. Muthamil Selvan.

Coalition of Malaysian Indian NGOs secretary Gunaraj George concurred and said his organisation was preparing a memorandum on the matter to be presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

As I mentioned earlier, legal action must be taken. We can’t trust the discplinary action nor the teacher’s apology. So far, no lawyer had come forward yet. Let’s see if there are only cowards in these political parties. If the parents want to go ahead, I’m confident that many people will contribute financially to support their legal action. Let this be a warning to all those who serve to “disrupt national unity and harmony” – as our ministers so fondly like to say. Or does it apply to certain groups only?

If you check the school’s website, under sesi pagi, there are 3 Indian teachers listed (Cik Vijayavaney A/P W.V. Richard, Pn Gunadevi A/P Rajadurai, En Nadarajan A/L Thambu). Nadarajan teaches Moral, so perhaps he can give his views. Hopefully all of them will give some comments. Btw, the violent racist teacher’s name is also there I believe.

Minnal FM interview with Senator Murugiah

I managed to hear about 20 minutes of the recorded interview of Senator T.Murugiah (PPP) who is a Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department. It was between 2 and 3pm on Minnal FM.

His interview was very candid and off the cuff. I’ve can’t remember other previous interviewees in the slot (like Saravanan and S.Subramaniam) talking like that.

Among the things he said:

1. He managed to settle SJKT Ladang Kulai Besar’s land title issue in just 6 days. The PIBG chairman called to thank him. It was dangling without solution for last 10 years.

2. He is in-charge of 5 departments under Prime Minister’s Department. Among them is the Biro Pengaduan Awam (Public Complaints Bureau) or BPA. He said all problems will receive personal attention from him. He urged Indians to put forth their complaints on about any public service problems to the agency. He said so far, after a publicity to the Indian community, most complaints that came in are on Tamil schools. He said PM personally told him to improve the BPA. BPA is at http://www.bpa.jpm.my and the public can contact them via telephone, letter, fax, and email.

3. He said not many Indian applicants for government jobs. He asked all candidates to forward a copy to him personally (to his office) so that he can track the application with SPA. He said many candidates don’t turn up for interview or are unprepared. He is planning to create a briefing team to help candidates to prepare for interview.

4. He touched on Tamil School Foundation initiative that he started. He said we should be more like the Chinese community who are using funds to support their schools. He said that if one person contributed RM10, it will be in millions since there are more than a million Indians. The money can be used for extra classes, study trips for students, seminars, and even support those who have financial problem via scholarships. He said Tamil schools are the soul of the community and it is very important to maintain the schools. He said more people should send their children to Tamil schools.

5. He said he is not after name and fame. Those who cheat others and live on others suffering won’t be happy. He said he don’t even own a house after being taken away from him (not sure what that means).
