Following Ungku Aziz’a public statement about non-existence of social contract, MK talks to some academicians for their views on social contract and “ketuanan melayu” (malay supremacy). Hmmm…the word “supremacy” reminds me of German Nazi. didn’t they use the word as well? » Read more: Ketuanan Melayu does not exist

The case involving Tan Ean Huang was actually clear cut, but it dragged for months. The lady did everything opposite to Islam, her husband who is muslim did not help her out and actually disappeared. She converted out of need to get marriage, not for love of religion. Yet, she had to attend counseling, of which she only attended once. I guess they couldn’t get to her. She was steadfast and managed to escape from the religion. It would have been a mockery if the court decided otherwise. » Read more: ABIM calls for standard apostasy ruling

3094/26251 =  11.79%, which is more than the allocated 1% places in MRSM. A better reporting would be breakdown in terms of (i) normal/privileged Malaysians and their grade levels; (ii) races and their grade levels; (iii) gender and their grade levels.

A total of 3,094 non-bumiputera students are studying at 40 Mara Junior Science (MRSM) colleges throughout the country, Entrepreneur & Co-operative Development Minister Datuk Noh Omar said. He said MRSM colleges reserved 10% of their places for qualified non-bumiputera youths.

“For this year, we received 334 applications from non-bumiputeras to go into Form 1 at MRSM, of which 172 were accepted.

“Overall there are now 3,094 non-bumiputera students out of the total of 26,251 students in MRSM colleges nationwide,” he told Roslan Shaharum (PAS-Bukit Gantang).

Not sure if the girl has been offered alternative courses or not. Anyway, PSD (JPA) had only given 12% –  25% of scholarships to normal Malaysians a.k.a second class citizens from 2004-2007. The rest went to the privileged Malaysians.

It is the time of the year where parents and students have to approach political parties in order to convince and get more places from PSD. » Read more: SPM 10A1 Kamine Devi rejected by PSD

Wow…Ungku Aziz very brave ohh….Surely he have heard of Sedition Act before this? 😆

I believe the contract exists virtually, exchange of citizenship for preserving the special rights, and the details were made into articles in the constitution.

Don: No such thing as ‘social contract’

Royal professor Dr Ungku Abdul Aziz today made a startling claim today that there was no physical social contract between Malaysia’s diverse ethnic communities. “There is no such thing as social contract,” said Ungku Aziz, a panelist in the 25th Anniversary Look East Policy Forum in Shah Alam today.

Deviating from his original speech during the event, the celebrated academic said that the social contract was “a fantasy created by politicians of all sorts of colours depending on their interest”.

Ungku Aziz said the social contract should rightly be called an “economic contract” to justify affirmative action in areas of education and health for groups that needed it the most. However, he did not elaborate on the subject and said that he would save it for another forum.

Among the panelist today were former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Public Servide Department director-general Ismail Adam.

But Mahathir disagrees

Speaking at a press conference later, Mahathir however disagreed with Ungku Aziz and stressed that a social contract exists albeit not in written form. Instead, Mahathir explained that the social contract was an “understanding among founders of the alliance (government)” by Tunku Abdul Rahman.

“Tunku gave one million citizenship to the Chinese, in return, he expected the Chinese would give some support to the demand for independence and to the sharing concept. He didn’t spell it (the contract) out 100 per cent, but there was this understanding, not written,” he said. “But it is also reflected in the constitution, every time something is given to the Malays, something is also given to the Chinese and Indians,” he added.

Mahathir said the social contract was an understanding that includes sharing of political power and sharing the economic cake, which the bigger portion was given to the bumiputeras.”So eventually they can catch up with the non-bumiputeras,” he said.
