THE MIC wants the Government to scrap Remove Class for Tamil and Chinese school pupils, saying these classes are no longer relevant under the current education system. In a letter to Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, the party urged him to take steps to abolish these classes, reported Tamil Nesan.

MIC information chief Datuk M. Saravanan called on the minister to review the system based on feedback from the Indian community.

Not sure if the girl has been offered alternative courses or not. Anyway, PSD (JPA) had only given 12% –  25% of scholarships to normal Malaysians a.k.a second class citizens from 2004-2007. The rest went to the privileged Malaysians.

It is the time of the year where parents and students have to approach political parties in order to convince and get more places from PSD. » Read more: SPM 10A1 Kamine Devi rejected by PSD

BATU PAHAT, SUN:

IT’S usually the students who play truant, but now a teacher is under investigation for cutting class.
Deputy Education Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong said today he has told the Perak Education Department to investigate a 43-year-old Tamil schoolteacher from Ipoh, who is said to have skipped more than 30 days of school since January. “This is absolutely unacceptable,” he said, adding that the parents of his students are outraged.

He teaches physical education, English, Tamil, mathematics and science.

Wee said if the teacher is found guilty stern action would be taken. He could face dismissal.  We only want quality, dedicated teachers. A teacher who would just ‘makan gaji buta’ (take a salary without working for it) is not one of them,” he said. He expects the probe to completed within the next couple of days.

HINDRAF together with various other groups and NGOs organised a nationwide peaceful protest (meaning police did not provoke the protesters, no tear gas and water cannons!) in various location in KL, Seremban, Penang, Ipoh, JB etc.

So far, 7 people were taken for questioning in Penang as reported by MK and Anil Netto , including K Sudhagaran Stanley, M Suparamaniam, B Vimal, Lau Shu Shi, Teh Chun Hong (both Suaram members), social activist BK Ong and blogger Sathish.

My guess is that the bloggers like Sudhagaran and Sathish were there to cover the event, but report says they were distributing phamplets. I wonder if the police are actively targetting those with digital camera and video cameras so that the images and videos don’t get into websites. Its a case of you can’t see it, you can’t talk about it, I guess. Anyway, its a bad idea since many many people have camera phones and digicams now. How many people can you can you arrest? One may stand a bit far and use telephoto lens to zoom in or record from a higher ground, so there are virtually unlimited ways to get things recorded. » Read more: HINDRAF Nationwide Peaceful Assembly for Uthaya And ISA detainees
