Hindraf, said to be aligned to an opposition party?

I thought HINDRAF supports BN? At least that's what a few of their banners/posters mentioned.

He said of the 523 Tamil schools in the country, 180 are fully-aided schools, while the remaining were partially-aided, of which 66 schools have been rebuilt through government and private funding.

523 schools in 2007. How many have been closed down? How many in process of relocation? How many have been rejected when approached for relocation? One school rebuilt via private funding is SJKT North Hammock in Setia Alam, due to estate being redeveloped as housing area. Out of 180 schools, how many were turned to fully-aided schools in the last 10 years? in the last 20 years? When will the rest (343 schools) will be converted to fully-aided? Is there a timeline or plan? Rather than looking at schools as physical infrastructure, they should also look at overall education improvement in the last 50 years in Tamil schools – number of students, dropouts, passing rates, facilities (library, science lab, computers, internet, tables/chairs) available at all 523 schools, student-teacher ratio, promotion and career prospects for teachers etc.

“We are going to rebuild another 160 Tamil schools with the help of the government,” he said.

What is the time frame for these 160 schools to be rebuilt? 20 years? 50 years?

On temples, Samy Vellu said only temples that were built or extended on private land without government approvals were demolished and not hundreds of temples as claimed by Hindraf.

If temple already existed before indepedence, can application be made after building constructed? How many application has been made and rejected so far? What happened to the committee to monitor temple issues under DBKL and Perak govt?

On allegations of mistreatment of estate workers, Samy Vellu said the number of Indian estate workers had dwindled drastically, with only about 20 per cent still engaged in the plantation sector, while the rest have migrated to urban areas. “The MIC has been helping these people to get jobs and houses in towns,” he said, adding that in Kuala Lumpur alone, out of 5,000 squatters, the MIC, with the help of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, has secured 2,000 units of houses.

according to latest statistics, 63% of malaysians are in urban areas – meaning more migration and also transformation of rural areas into urban areas through redevelopment. That's why we have more urban poors now. Did they focus on reskilling these migrating or displaced groups so that can adopt to new environment? Anyway, HINDRAF made comparisons on what other community gets as compensation and what the Indians get as compensation. Everyone get house, but what house and where? And how about the issues where some estate folks don't have IC, marriage certs, and are illiterate?

Perhaps the comparisons and facts should be linked with similar statistics of all communities so that we can get a fairer picture?

Samy Vellu ready to meet Hindu NGO to iron out community problems

BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, Sun.:

MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu is willing to meet the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), a non-governmental organisation, to iron out Indian community issues and unresolved matters.

He said he was ever ready to meet any individual or organisations who were unhappy with the alleged shoddy treatment accorded to the Indians or wanted to resolve the community’s problems.

“I am always ready to listen to their views and explain to them the efforts taken by the government in resolving the woes of the Indian community,” the Works Minister said when asked by reporters if he was willing to meet Hindraf officials.

Hindraf, said to be aligned to an opposition party, submitted an 18-page memorandum to the Prime Minister’s office last Sunday on what it alleged as the marginalisation of the Indians by the government.

It also called for an end to the special privileges given to the Malay community.
While stressing that Hindraf had not approached him for a meeting, Samy Vellu said he was willing to meet them to discuss only matters concerning the Indian community.

Samy Vellu also rebutted some of the allegations made by Hindraf that the government had neglected Tamil schools and demolished hundereds of Hindu temples.

“There is no truth to such thing and I have the figures to substantiate them. Please do not make wild allegations,” he said.

He said of the 523 Tamil schools in the country, 180 are fully-aided schools, while the remaining were partially-aided, of which 66 schools have been rebuilt through government and private funding.

“We are going to rebuild another 160 Tamil schools with the help of the government,” he said.

On temples, Samy Vellu said only temples that were built or extended on private land without government approvals were demolished and not hundreds of temples as claimed by Hindraf.

“There is a limit to accusations. We must have an open mind and see things clearly,” he said, adding that the MIC has sought fresh applications for government grants to build and rebuild more temples.

  7. Manisegaran.V says:

Yes, I agree we have to change our MIC leader, time has come for us to have a new and dynamic leader who has the Indian’s welfare at heart. But how are we going to do this without being a member of MIC and making the difference. Most of us including me are not MIC memebers but we want change. The BN ruling party only recognises MIC as the party representing the Indian Community and Uncle Sam is very happy just with the small numbers he has in the party who always votes him in based on blind loyalty. If you want to make a difference then join them and make the difference. Work from within. Iam.

getting the indian united? how the hell are we going to get the indian united when we the small population has so many indian parties? mic, ipf,pp and now the new mic party? gaduh sikit tubuh parti baru, mesyuarat maika baling2 kerusi, and now talking about fighting for indian rights… what is this hindraf trying to fight for by rallying in front of british embassy? misled our ancestor to come to malaya? what if our forefathers didn’t come to malaya at the first place? can we have the same type of living we have here in motherland India? thank god our forefathers came to malaya, if not we are subjected to much more severe caste discrimination in India… all i can sense that this Hindraf is trying to misled Indians with their own political agenda… little Napolean perhaps… if some of us regret that our forefathers came to malaya, they can always packed their back and go to India, see if the Indians there welcome them or not!

    • guru says:

I totally agree with you… Let it be MIC, IPF, PPP, etc and now Hindraf. Let look at facts, nobody likes Datuk Sam but since Hindraf came into the picture everyone is supporting them now. But did anyone of us really asked ourselves what we really wanted.
Hindraf rallied with good intentions but otherwise provoked the Opposition. What happen now is 3 parties are facing a serious problem among them to whom is suppose to rule accordingly.. which will cause us the citizens lot of problem.
I do not think India is going to welcome us eventhough we are Indians. Let look at it.. our way of life and the Indians in India.. can we adjust ourselves to their way of lifestyle when we cannot do that in our own place!!
What Hindraf did is not wrong but there should have been a better way of doing it. Our people always look for opportunity – if A says this is good they join A, if B says this is better they join B and so on.. Think……. use your brains which GOD has given and we can always join hands as Indians for anything – peacefully.
For instance, when AMMA came to Malaysia a huge Indian crowd was there to see and get her blessing. Same.. we can gather to worship and pray for a good leader to guide and assist the Indian Community.
Should we want to do a gathering, we can but do it for a good purpose!!

  17. Unga Bunga says:

Deyy Hindraf! Extremism has no place in our society. You want to hand over your memo to the British HC? Just use FedEx or DHL. It’s faster and more importantly, SAFER & MORE PEACEFUL!. Stop this violent culure of taking it to the streets. You guys are a disgrace to the Indian community. I dare you moderator delete my comment as doing so will only proof that there’s no freedom of speech here. Chalo!

    • YOGI says:

Hey… you did say the right thing.. Extremism has no place in our society.

Hindraf Leaders – please bear in mind that we as Indians would like to have our rights and not marginalised too but demostration no………….. we should not disgrace our own community.

We must not go and beg…. speak up openly. Everyone has the right to FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

  19. Shame-on-all-of-you!! says:

I am a Malaysian Indian and I must say that without generalising, I find Malaysian Indians as a group are a pathetic lot!! Here are my reasons:

I am deeply ashamed at associating myself with you lot. Having lived abroad (in the UK) for the last 10 years, I was deeply bewildered and amused at the attempts by a group of shortsighted, misled and dare I say it, money-driven upholders of the law, to ‘extort’ HMG for the inherent failures in this community. This puerile and sanctimonious action to incite hatred is driven by a few who realise that the Indians are a vulnerable group of people. By using religion, it is not difficut to rally support. I am truly ashamed at the naievity of Malaysian Indians. Perhaps, this, more than anything else, is why the Indians will never better their social standing.

We all realise that there can be no positive outcome from this rally. There is no reimbursement for the community coming our way. The only outcome of this showdown is to firmly establish the fact amongst the rest of the Malaysian population that the Indians are deeply bitter about their past, have not moved on and perhaps also confirm that as Indians we will never get out of the rut of being impoverished socially, eduationally and financially.

Instead of standing in the blistering heat on Sunday, pretending to uphold the rights of Indians, I have a better idea. Stroll into a nearby library and educate yourselves. Don’t drown your sorrows in alcohol or a cacophony of Bollywood tunes, learn a new language or skill, try to succeed despite the obstacles you face. Demanding a few ringgit so you can buy a Proton is downright insulting.

Please have some self-respect. No one else would do it for you!!

  23. Businessman says:

To all Malaysian Indians who happen to read this posting of mine, i would like you to reconsider your alliance with this HINDRAF body, or so called upholder of your rights here in Malaysia. Although i do agree with a few here that the MIC has indeed failed miserably in taking care of the needs of the Malaysian-Indian community, i believe the rally organized by HINDRAF tomorrow morning in Kuala Lumpur is not the ideal platform to voice out your dissatisfaction towards MIC and the constant discrimination towards your race. With the General Elections approaching, it is obvious that this HINDRAF body is being manipulated by people who have their own political agenda (whether HINDRAF realises it or not) to garner support. As a Malaysian Indian myself, i would like to advise the youths especially to stay away from this illegal gathering. Say no to street demonstrations, embrace a peaceful life through diplomatic solutions.

    • I thought about it and you said it very well……… whether people out there understands and welcomes this message or not, I do!!

The older generation must teach their children : what is respect/moral, etc as most of the children now does not know that..

We should educate our people first rather that rallying in the streets which resulted lots of ill feeling, mis-treatment, anger, injuries….

Harmony and peace is want we want and do your duty as a citizen will will come..

  24. woolfgang says:

Dear friends it’s important that we listen to the speeches made by UMNO delegates during their assembly. It’s funny that our so call Indian leaders are happy with the outcome of the speech. MIC leaders have sold all our rights to the UMNO and the Government. HINDRAF is helping us to get it back. I hope it’s not only for the Hindus because I’m Indian Christian.

Indians in the Rubber and Palm oil estates… can someone get statistics of number of children born to the Indian families in the estates are deformed or mentally retarded since 1960’s. Go and visit the Oil palm estates in Carey Island estates in Semenyih and all palm oil estates. You will be surprise. What kind of help have they received? What was the reason or reasons behind this sort of birth?
If you go to the smaller towns near the estates the shopper owners are allowed to sell SAMSU (alcoholic beverage design specially to destroy the Indian community) still being sold. The government and the STUPID MIC leaders are not bothered. Let the estate fellows suffer and die.

Alongs will come the house end of every month and collect father’s salary….. and the poor children suffer. They don’t even have money to spend during their break.

If these poor children go to National schools they are look and treated differently and the teachers automatically switch on inactive role and pay very little attention to our estate children.

My friend have we forgotten our Mont Everest mountaineer. What happen to him and what about his wife and children during the episode?

The greatest failure of the ruling party is their education system and policies. They have screwed our education system to glory. Our children can not compete with those of the same age in Singapore. Look at our current education Minister he said the Indian Teachers and students not to attend this rally in front of the British High Commission or face stern action, but it’s OK for an education Minister to kiss a “keris” in front of the nation. Not an intelligent man, reflect on poor education policies…….

Please look at the Cabinet and the government they are more corrupt leader than the whole of the police force put together. How can we elect fools to lead the country that we all love?

Indians have much more freedom in India than anywhere else. What to say if you would love to be slave than being poor in the country of your forefathers. Being poor or rich in India is in your hands. It is not easy to start from scrap for anyone. When you go back to India you have nothing in hand and that is why you got to blame British and not Indians. British is responsible for so many things bad that has happened to India, its own citizens and the Indians abroad.

  26. s says:

Whether this rally is good or not I do not know. It would be nice if things are worked out peacefully.

  29. Terwander Singh says:

A race that depends on handouts will never be a strong race. We Malaysian Indians shd strive. We must be 100% better than the next man. We will get nothing in the streets fighting demonstrating. We will have to show that we are a hard working race, our destiny is in the making not in the asking. We must be valued in the quality of our service where ever we are than we will be in demand not by shouting in street demonstration. Dont envy the Bumi’s if they want to be weak with special benefits so be it. We shd labor and shape our destiny. Just do what ever positive you are doing, better. Change will come one day. Remember we can create an economy within the Indian community. No point fighting, the government does not owe us a living. We owe our selves a living. Think about it. There is work no one will go hungry. If a million foreign workers can come here and find work , why not we . Success and wealth begins with hard work and wealth gained thru hard work stays. Please do get angry with what I said.

Samy Vellu style. The problem is not UMNO, Abdullah Badawi, MIC, MCA or what not. Go to the bathroom. Look carefully into the mirror. No, you can’t find the problem there. Now take your clothes off, look again into the mirror. There’s your problem!!! It all lies within yourselves. Economic turn worst and they still spend publicity money to create ASTRONUT we should use the money to help those need. So Mr Astronut what you will do to publicity sigh been invest by goverment to the aero space?
