Questions over death at wedding function

While the earlier death at wedding function news caused lot of sadness, this report from Tamil Nesan raises more question. The 23 year old dead victim (updated: victim name is R.Mohan) was supposed to leave for UK to study aeronautical engineering. Well, back in my school days, students who went for this course usually had double digit number of As for their SPM.

Questions are also being asked why the policeman was carrying his gun, and why shots were not aimed at the legs or arms (well, I guess panic).

Now there’s a call for an inquiry into the shooting citing that eyewitnesses who were present alleged that warning shots were only fired after the student had been shot.

Meanwhile the boy’s uncle G. Murali said the family would not claim the body from the hospital until a satisfactory answer came from the police over the shooting. Murali said the boy’s father, elder brother and two sisters were still being detained by the police for investigations.

And I thought this only happens in movies. How silly of me.The bride, being an adult has all the right in the world to marry whoever she wants to. But for an auspicious function to end up in bloodshed and loss of life implies a more serious underlying problem. Is this what our community had come too.

What a sad news.

The younger brother of the bride in the botched wedding in Sungai Besi on Saturday died from a gunshot wound in the head. The 23-year-old man was shot by a detective, who was a guest at the wedding. He died Sunday at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Police have arrested the bride’s father and another person who were in a group that gate-crashed the Hindu wedding at Desa Tasik Sports Complex moments before the bride and groom were to be married.

It is believed that the bride did not get the consent of her family and the group arrived with parang (machetes) and chains to force her to cancel the wedding. The group of about six, including a woman, began shouting before they started attacking the guests.

The plainclothes detective identified himself as a policeman and warned the group to stop and fired several warning shots. But they charged at him forcing him to open fire and a bullet hit the bride’s younger brother.

Wow! this would be some sort of record I guess!

8th postponement of inquest into detainee’s death
KUALA LUMPUR: The inquest into the death of Ulaganathan Muniandy was postponed for the eighth time yesterday, raising the concern of Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram).
Counsel James Khong, who is holding a watching brief for the family, urged the magistrate to speed up the inquest as it had been four years since Ulaganathan died in police custody.Yesterday, the deputy public prosecutor and all the witnesses did not show up, Khong said in a statement issued through Suaram.

He said the previous hearing on Feb 29 was postponed for the same reason, while the first five hearings were not held following applications for postponement by the DPP.

Ulaganathan was detained under the Emergency Ordinance on May 12, 2003, at the Kajang police station, where he died on July 21.
The Kajang Hospital concluded that his cause of death “cannot be determined”, although his family suspected foul play.

The next inquest hearing is scheduled for July 22.

Kapar temple status threatened by land owner

Well, in this instance, the authorities are not directly involved. The questions being raised is the inaction by the police on various reports made by the temple caretaker for last two years. Its related to the dubious manner of the land ownership transfer. Unfortunately, the temple lost the court case years ago, thus no option but to relocate. The caretaker had put in an application to set aside the ruling, but the owner is not bothered to wait. Perhaps the court should put up a restraining or stop-work kind of order. Then we can see if the police follow the court decision or not.

Until then, the police won’t be protecting the temple since court ruled otherwise. I’m sure in this instance, the police will follow the rule of the law and protect the owner. The only option is to provide proof of embezzlement or criminal action by the new owner. But even then, a recent landmark case involving land transfer shows that the “sale” or “transfer” is valid (even though invalid methods are used) and the buyer’s rights are protected. The actual owner (whose land title was transferred without their knowlege) lost their case. So, again I think legal avenue will be failure as well.

Since the owner is private (individual), he won’t be so charitable to allocate a plot for the temple. He won’t be standing for any election is not worried position and power. Only thing is that, if indeed he cheated in order to own the land, Amman will ensure he and his future generation pays many folds. That’s natural law.

Next option is political intervention – perhaps PR government will create much hassle until the new owner can’t do any development in the land. Or just buy the land and convert it into park. temple, school land etc. This would be a big challenge for new Kapar MP Manikavasagam. I’m sure Komala is waiting happily to seize the opportunity and hentam him.

They way I see it, only political or divine intervention can save the temple. Perhaps the owner will have a dream soon! 🙂

Kapar seems to be in the papers due to land issues nowadays.

MP Manikavasagam have written on his website about the issue. Photos are available at his Picasa site.

Testing CHINDRAF’s patience

See the victim for yourself!

See the thugs attacking media personnel and residents:

Those two incidents were unanticipated, and I suspect jolted the authorities. First the presence of some thugs (looked like Mat Rempits) who brazenly attacked residents while the police were less than few hundred metres away. Now, it does not take a PhD in rocket science to see who could have hired these thugs. Second incident was the attack on the driver of the car alleged to have hit (or nearly hit) a policeman. The guy ended up in hospital, with broken teeth, facial injuries. The passengers in the car were his sister and bosses. Now exactly gangsters or troublemakers, are they? » Read more: Testing CHINDRAF’s patience
