I’m quite surprised to hear this. I thought MARA is mainly (99% or 100%?) for Malay community, so how can funds from the Ministry is channeled to them? Does that mean that the Ministry only have funds for Malays all this while? Or is MARA’s role being expanded?

If it is the first case, that means the SEDC is for certain community only? That is quite bad. Imagine all the none PR states using funds for SEDC for benefit of certain race only. » Read more: Ministry to channel funds via MARA for Pakatan led states

While the focus was on “is-it-an-apology-or-not” from Hishamuddin over the keris display, I was attracted to what Vigneswaran said on the discussion about HINDRAF ISA detainees. According to him, no consensus was attained. He said he explained MIC’s stand during the BN Youth meeting. As far as I can recall, MIC, MCA, Gerakan have called for the detainees’ release. Not sure on stand of parties from East Malaysia, and I don’t see a reason for them to oppose. That leave only one culprit. No prizes for guessing why consensus was not reached. The study did not indicate how the respondents were chosen, data collection method, and number of respondent for each age group. But if the study is to be accepted, then it means nearly 2/3 of those aged between 21 and 40 would have anti-BN views. Added with the probability that this group would have high mobility (thus able to convey things they saw/read to more people) as compared to those in their 50s or 60s, the BN did a terrible mistake by overlooking the Internet.

I realised that in his response to calls from various quarters to free the HINDRAF ISA detainees, Syed Hamid said:

We cannot simply react to political parties‘ call, we have to react towards what is public safety and peace and will make due considerations if there is no threat to national security

The last I counted the list of supporters included 2 political parties, one foreign NGO, and one business association: » Read more: Syed Hamid condemns Gerakan

What can we expect now?

The local dailies will be offering more videoblog ala Youtube, setting up blogs and updating news at breakneck speeds. We see The Star as one example of a Internet-embracing media, while Utusan, BH, NST, Sun, tamil dailies lag far behind. NST has been providing video feeds of late. So, we can expect more of the one-sided stories to be available online as well. More IT jobs for the young people! » Read more: BN to engage in cyberwar
